This is one of the most common statements I hear from clients.

But let's talk about it.

Many people think that once a condominium reaches 50 years, the building simply disappears and the owners lose everything. That's not how it works.

When you buy a condominium unit, you don't just own the space inside your unit. You also own a share of the land where the building stands through the condominium corporation.

As buildings age, owners may collectively decide whether to:
✅ Renovate and modernize the property
✅ Redevelop the site into a newer project
✅ Sell the property and distribute the proceeds among unit owners

In many prime locations, the land itself becomes more valuable over time. In some cases, owners benefit from the appreciation of both the property and the land.

Think about it this way:

If a condominium is located in a highly developed area with growing demand, would the land suddenly become worthless after 50 years?

Of course not.

The real question isn't how old the building will be decades from now.

The real question is:
