plans new
Dubai has moved closer to top of 'Semi-Transparent' category, where it sits on a par with Tier 1 cities in BRIC countries.
Dubai is planning to launch a real estate performance index that will allow global investors to track and benchmark performance, according to the Dubai Land Department (DLD) chief.
“While we have certainly made good progress over the past two years, we recognise that further initiatives are required if Dubai is to achieve its goal of delivering a more transparent market,” Director-General Sultan Buti Bin Mejren wrote in JLL’s Global Real Estate Transparency Index, 2016.

World’s largest in takes shape
Construction of what will be the world’s highest observation wheel, located in Dubai, has reached a significant milestone according to its developer, Meraas.
Ain Dubai, which is taking shape on Bluewaters Island in front of the Jumeirah Beach Residence coastline, has had its hub and spindle lifted into place, creating a new feature on Dubai’s dramatic skyline.
They were manufactured and assembled in the UAE and shipped to Bluewaters Island due to their size – the spindle has a diameter of 6.25 metres and is made of steel that is similar to that used for nuclear power plants.

offers new pathways of prosperity
The completion of the Dubai Canal project over the next few months could help to transform the city by opening a waterway, currently stranded in Business Bay, for leisure use and by creating swathes of valuable new real estate.
The 3.2-kilometre extension of Dubai Canal from Business Bay to the Arabian Gulf is progressing at pace, with an elevated southbound stretch over Sheikh Zayed Road set to be open today, allowing for the removal of the old carriageway below.

Abu Dhabi and Dubai most expensive Middle East cities to live in
Abu Dhabi and Dubai are among the most expensive cities in the world to live, a survey revealed.
Dubai ranked the 21st most expensive city, up from 23 last year, while the capital came in at 25, up from 33.
These moves followed a trend across the Middle East.
“The main reason Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and in fact almost all cities in the Middle East, increased in rank is that their currencies are pegged to the US dollar," Mr Thissen said.
