Dubai is one of the safest, most organised cities in the world and a big reason is simple: clear rules + respect for public spaces. 🇦🇪✨
If you’re visiting, moving, or investing in Dubai / UAE, here are a few “don’t do this” moments that catch people off guard, especially newcomers.
1) Public displays of affection (PDA)
Dubai is family-friendly and culturally conservative in public. Keep it respectful, and save the intimate stuff for private spaces.
2) Swearing in public or online
In Dubai, what you type can be treated the same as what you say. Avoid insults, profanity, and aggressive comments, especially in DMs, WhatsApp, reviews, and social media.
3) Offensive gestures
Even “joke” gestures can be taken seriously. In a city that values respect, staying calm is always the smartest move.
4) Eating/drinking in public during Ramadan (fasting hours)
Dubai is very welcoming in Ramadan, but public etiquette matters. Follow the local guidance and you’ll enjoy the best vibe of the year.
5) Drugs, even small amounts
The UAE has strict laws here. If you travel with medication, always check what’s allowed and carry prescriptions when needed.
6) Extremely dirty or dusty cars
Sounds minor, but Dubai takes cleanliness seriously, especially in public spaces. A quick wash can save hassle.
