: SMC FAST-TRACKS BULACAN AIRPORT, EYES COMPLETION BY 2028

San Miguel Corporation Chairman Ramon Ang has placed the ₱740-billion New Manila International Airport (NMIA) in Bulacan at the top of the company’s priority list, calling it a major “game changer” for national development. Originally launched in 2019 but delayed by supply chain issues, the airport is now targeted to open in 2028.

Once completed, NMIA is expected to boost tourism, create thousands of jobs, and open new economic opportunities that could lessen the country’s dependence on OFW deployment and the BPO sector. SMC has also taken over the management of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, strengthening its role in the country’s aviation landscape.

In the first quarter of 2025, SMC reported ₱43.4 billion in earnings, driven largely by a US$3.3-billion power deal. Its core income grew by 31 percent to ₱19 billion.
