The temperature of asphalt during different stages is crucial for ensuring a good quality road. Here's a breakdown of the recommended temperature ranges for each stage:
1. Mixing:
Temperature: 150°C to 190°C
The mixing process involves heating bitumen and aggregates in a plant. The temperature should be high enough to ensure proper coating of the aggregates with bitumen.
2. Paving:
Temperature: 120°C to 160°C
During paving, the asphalt is transported from the plant to the site and laid on the road surface. The temperature must be maintained to ensure that the material remains workable during placement.
3. Compaction:
Temperature: 85°C to 140°C
Compaction must be completed while the asphalt is still hot and flexible. If the temperature drops too much, compaction becomes difficult, and the asphalt may not bond well, leading to premature failure.
Maintaining the correct temperature at each stage is essential to achieve a durable and long-lasting pavement.
