Water shortage

Imagine walking for hours just to fill one bucket of water. For millions, it’s not imagination-it’s reality. What would you do if clean water disappeared tomorrow? We can observe the rivers that used to be filled by water, but now they are dried out. Nearly half of the world’s population-3.6 million-experience water shortage for at least one month each year. This great deal of number is estimated to rise over 5 billion by 2050. Personally, I think water scarcity is more prone to caused by humans rather than natural factors, and I find this as a disastrous threat to all human beings. To discover more about the reasons of the water scarcity consider the following points.

Counties like Afghanistan, Syria, and Turkey are experiencing severe water scarcity due to the factors attributed to climate change, conflict, and unsustainable water usage. Moreover, regions like the Sahel, including Faso and Niger, are also confronting threats of drought and desertification. 1 in 3 people globally don’t have access to safe drinking water. What are the reasons for water shortage?

First, Climate change plays a major role in water shortage. There are different factors of climate change contributing to water scarcity. Melting glaciers is one of the main cause of water scarcity. When the air temperature rises, it causes more evaporation.UN experts, WMO, and the World Glacier Monitoring Service (WGMS) warns that many glaciers will not survive the 21st century. If all glaciers and ice caps are melted, global sea levels could rise about 70 meters (230 feet), destroying coastal areas. Moreover, unpredictable rainfalls and longer droughts is another major reason for water shortage. The more the soil experience droughts, the more the water falls down.

Second, population growth is another significant reason contributing to water scarcity. More people requires more demands for drinking, farming, and industry consuming a huge amount of water which causes water shortage. Additionally, when cities expand, it stresses local water supplies. This affects water to decrease. By 2050, it is estimated that there will be more than 9.7 billion people on earth, and this shows that we will encounter to a catastrophe of water scarcity.

Third, overusing water can be another crucial reason attributable to water shortage. Excessive irrigation in agriculture which uses 70% of freshwater globally endangers water cycle. In addition, wasting water in household and factories and uncontrolled water extraction from rivers and underground are altogether contribute water to decline.

A Walk Through History: My Time in (Darulaman, Kabul)

There’s something powerful about standing in a place where history breathes through every wall and stone. That’s exactly how I felt walking through Darulaman, Kabul
— a place I’ve heard about so often, but experiencing it in person was something else entirely.

The highlight of my visit was, of course, the iconic Darulaman Palace. Built nearly a century ago during King Amanullah Khan’s reign, this palace was meant to represent a new, modern Afghanistan. Although it suffered heavily during the years of war, seeing it now — beautifully restored — was a powerful reminder of our country’s strength and resilience.

As I walked through its grand halls and looked out over the wide, peaceful surroundings, I couldn’t help but reflect on how far we’ve come, and how much hope still lives here.

Darulaman isn’t just a historical site — it’s a feeling. The mix of beauty, pain, pride, and promise makes it a place that every Afghan should visit at least once. For me, it was more than just a trip — it was a quiet moment with my roots.

This journey gave me perspective. It reminded me of where we’ve been, and inspired me to think about where we’re going.

Plastic pollution

What if the fish you eat has more plastic than protein? It has been estimated that by 2050, there may be more plastic than fish in the ocean. “We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children“. Plastic production, though a product of convenience and industrial growth, is ticking ecologic bomb that demands global regularity, scientific, and behavioral intervention. While plastic has revolutionized modern life, it’s environmental costs now outweigh its benefits, calling for urgent systemic change.

First and foremost, plastic pollution pollutes soil and freshwater endangering marine life. Plastics thrown away into the oceans by humans directly used by marine creatures. Overtime plastics will take apart and alters to micro plastics; they are digested by marine life creatures entering into their digestive system, so this process endangers their lives.

Secondly, plastic pollution also introduces human health concerns. As it is mentioned before that micro plastics are composed of small plastic particles, they land into drinking water, seafood, and even the air escalating health issues. Therefore, it increases potential hormonal disruption and long-term risks.

Additionally, it challenges countries worldwide. Since consumers are prone to utilize single-use plastics, it directly threatens countries as they will confront to weak waste management systems. Hence, there will be more plastic waste but not any system to reduce it.

Regarding the damages and risks in plastic pollution, there are many solutions and innovations to address it. First, humans should alternate plastic materials to new materials and biodegradable alternatives. Second, they should revise circular economy models: Reduce,Reuse, Recycle. Finally, they should include plastic bans and extended producer responsibility to their policy initiatives.

Now there will pop up a question: plastic is cheaper and more durable- how to replace it? While alternatives may have their own costs such as paper bags or cotton tote bags, it is crucial that you can save your environment and dynasty.

To sum up, it is every single individual‘s responsibility to conserve their environment. Governments should prioritize this challenge. Imagine a world where nature breathes freely again. It’s not about one perfect act, but millions of imperfect ones.
