Spring is a season of renewal, maintenance and a little forward planning… because preserving and maintaining this iconic structure, means preparing for whatever comes next. 🏰🌿 Spring cleaning at Thorngrove takes many forms. Along with the usual polishing, waxing, pruning and freshening of the Manor, we have been preparing for the unexpected — with new air-conditioning units and extensions to our fire sprinkler system.
Behind the romance, and beautiful interiors, there is always plenty happening behind the scenes to keep Thorngrove safe, ,functional and super comfortable, well cared for and maintaned.

After the quietness of winter, the gardens seem to breathe again; fresh green leaves unfurl, new growth softens the landscape, and every corner feels touched by a little more light.

Spring is nature’s gentle reminder that renewal does not need to be hurried. It arrives quietly, leaf by leaf, flower by flower, bringing with it a sense of possibility and new beginnings.

At Thorngrove, the soft greens of spring weave through the ancient trees, gardens and stonework, creating that magical moment when the landscape feels almost enchanted.

The most enduring interiors are rarely those that reflect fleeting trends. They are spaces that allow life to evolve within them, where architecture, craftsmanship and the senses come together to create something uniquely authentic.

Nothing is there simply for decoration. The unexpected contrasts, the patina of antiques, the sound of silence, the scent of the garden and the warmth of a fire all contribute to a sense of place that is individual and unmistakably human.

When all five senses are considered, an interior becomes more than a beautiful backdrop. It develops a presence of its own, a place that can restore, inspire and encourage us to slow down and linger.

Spring arrives quietly at Thorngrove, then suddenly it is everywhere.
Bulbs emerge beneath the ancient trees, flowers open in unexpected corners and the gardens fill with colour, fragrance and birdsong.

There is something quite magical about a winter's morning at Thorngrove, when an ethereal veil of fog drifts quietly through the hills.
The gardens, stone towers and ancient trees seem to emerge from a fairytale , softened by mist and wrapped in an almost otherworldly stillness.

In August 1984, we had just begun digging the foundations for what would become Thorngrove.
Over the many years since, Thorngrove has become far more than a house and a garden. It has created a unique and somewhat extraordinary rhythm of life, one that we could never have imagined when we first began. Despite our size, and limited guest numbers, Thorngrove was a longstanding member of international luxury hotel groups, including Small Luxury Hotels of the World for 28 years, until we chose to relinquish membership. Being awarded 2 Michelin keys in 2025 was especially significant , in what was a challenging year.

We have met and welcomed people from around the globe whom we otherwise would never have encountered; from the notorious to European royalty, politicians, actors and even the world’s richest man. There have also been those very special guests who, over time, became friends and permanent fixtures in our lives.

The conversations, the glimpses into entirely different lifestyles, the exchange of ideas, and the opportunity to learn from so many remarkable people have been immeasurable gifts.

It has been an honour to share in so many special milestones and important moments in people’s lives. And it has been an extraordinary adventure; achieving goals and receiving recognition and awards that we never actively sought, but which have been both humbling and deeply appreciated.

Through all the changes, the passion and aspiration that began with those first foundations have never dwindled. Thorngrove has continued to evolve, while remaining true to the vision and spirit with which it began.

Above all, we are grateful to the special people who have encouraged, supported and believed in us throughout this remarkable journey.
