A Little Piece of My Grandfather’s Heart at Flynn’s Homestead

Yesterday, I hung my grandfather’s own paintings bringing back so many treasured
memories.

Our family has always had a deep love of the Australian countryside, and painting became Dadda’s passion, even as his eyesight deteriorated. His love of the Australian goldfields, old cottages and country life is captured in every brushstroke, reminding me of his beloved cottage at Blackwood, affectionately named "Glencoe".

He lived to the wonderful age of 100 and was one of the kindest, gentlest souls you could ever meet.

Even when he had lost his sight, he never lost his beautiful sense of humour. He would lean in and whisper, not quite realising who else was within earshot...

"I don’t have favourites, but if I did, it would be you."

I still smile wondering how many of us heard those very same words!

These paintings are a little tribute to a very special man and just a few of the treasured family pieces and stories you’ll discover during your stay at Flynn’s Homestead.

We are absolutely bursting with pride as our beautiful niece, Piper Flynn, prepares to make her debut for the Australian Wallaroos!

From chasing her rugby dreams to representing her country on the international stage, what an incredible achievement!

Piper, your hard work, determination and passion have brought you to this moment, and we couldn't be prouder of you.

From all of us at Flynn's Homestead, we'll be cheering you on as you take to the field against France!

It's a big weekend in Canungra!

One of the things I love most about hosting at Flynn's Homestead is sharing everything that's happening in our beautiful corner of the Scenic Rim.

This weekend you'll find me volunteering behind the bar at the Canungra Rodeo , while the region is also buzzing with the Tamborine Mountain Country Markets and the Canungra Village Markets .

If you're staying with us, don't forget to stop by the Canungra Butchery before heading out—they'll have everything you need for the perfect BBQ. Pair that with some delicious local produce and you've got a true Scenic Rim feast.

When I'm not hosting guests, I also volunteer at Canungra Information Centre, so I love helping visitors discover the people, places and local businesses that make our community so special.

Winter? You wouldn't know it today... ☀️

The day began wrapped in a blanket of mist, with the paddocks hidden beneath the morning fog. By lunchtime, the skies had turned a brilliant blue and the temperature climbed to 27°C.

That's winter in the Scenic Rim.

Whether you're curled up on the veranda with a coffee watching the mist roll by, or enjoying an afternoon by the pool in the sunshine, Flynn's Homestead is the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the best of country Queensland.

We loved welcoming our weekend guests!

Now the question is...

Will this weekend's guests be brave enough to take the plunge?

Winter at Flynn's Homestead means dinner is served a little earlier.

By 4pm the sun is already starting its slow descent behind the mountains, and our horses and goats know exactly what time it is.

The feed buckets come out, everyone finds their spot, and the paddocks are bathed in that beautiful golden winter light that makes the Scenic Rim so special.

It's one of our favourite times of day — the animals are happy, the air is crisp, and the valley seems to slow down for a moment before evening arrives.

Not a bad way to spend a winter afternoon.

After wandering the Tamborine Mountain and Canungra Markets Sunday morning, we came home to sunshine, green hills and that peaceful feeling you only get in the country.

And if you look closely in the final photo, you can spot the little grassy patch high up on the mountain where the first photos were taken — from lookout views across the Scenic Rim to home again at Flynn’s Homestead. 💛

A week of rain… and then THIS ✨

Moody sunsets, misty mornings, sparkling dams and sunshine rolling across the hills again. The homestead is drying out, the paddocks are glowing green and every animal on the property seems just a little happier today. ☀️🌿

This is the kind of week that reminds us why we love life in the Scenic Rim. 💛

A little love, shared in the simplest ways 🤍

These photos are a small glimpse into something very close to my heart.

Alongside Flynn’s Homestead and volunteering at the Canungra Visitor Information Centre, I run Adopt a Grandparent with a beautiful group of women from Busy Blankets on the Gold Coast.

Together, we create and deliver handmade gifts to aged care residents — especially around Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Christmas.

From spending time with residents, to delivering these thoughtful little pieces, it’s a reminder that even the smallest gesture can brighten someone’s day in a really meaningful way.

For some, days like today can feel a little quiet… so this is our way of making sure they feel remembered and cared for 🤍
