Saturday night is a big night for real estate professionals across Queensland as we come together for the 2026 REIQ Awards for Excellence.

I've been named a finalist in two categories and I'm hoping a little of the fairy dust from last year's awards might just help me take home a win.

Having been named a finalist over several years, it's a privilege to continue being recognised alongside some of the very best people in our industry.

I'm fortunate to work in an industry I genuinely love, surrounded by wonderful colleagues, clients and a team who share my passion for doing things well.

Whatever happens on Saturday night, I'm grateful for the business I've built, the clients who trust us and my inner circle.

Maybe hugs are what we need?

Over the weekend, more than 2,000 people came together for the Mental Awareness Foundationā€™s annual walk, raising awareness of mental health, remembering those weā€™ve lost to su***de and reminding everyone that no one should have to face lifeā€™s challenges alone.

Now in its 16th year, itā€™s an event Iā€™ve been proud to support for many years, usually at registration, welcoming everyone as they arrive.

But this year, I was given a new assignmentā€¦ the Hugging Booth! šŸ¤—

Now, anyone who knows me knows Iā€™m not naturally a hugger, so this was definitely a little outside my comfort zone!

But what an experience.

Between the hugs, smiles, laughter and some genuinely wonderful conversations, I found myself connecting with complete strangers in a way I hadnā€™t expected.

Some people just wanted a quick hug. Others stopped for a chat. Some moments were funny, others were incredibly moving.

It reminded me that connection doesnā€™t always need a big conversation or a grand gesture. Sometimes itā€™s simply showing up, being present and making someone feel seen.

After all these years volunteering, I think this might have been my favourite job yet.

Sometimes the best leasing result is about taking the time to select the right tenant for the property.

With construction underway behind this Cleveland home, we wanted to make sure the incoming tenants understood exactly what was happening and were comfortable with the environment before moving in.

That patience paid off, with a great application from tenants who were the right fit for the home and happy to make it theirs.

A really positive outcome for our owners, and a good news story all round as we welcome the new residents into their new burrow.

Iā€™m a finalist for Property Manager of the Year ā€“ Metro at the 2026 Property Management Excellence Awards (PMX).

2026 Property Management Excellence Awards

The REB (Real Estate Business) PMX Awards are national, with finalists from across Australia, and Iā€™m incredibly proud to be representing Wombat Real Estate and Queensland as the only Queensland property manager named in the category.

For a business that only opened its doors in January 2024, seeing Wombat recognised on a national stage alongside some of Australiaā€™s leading property managers is a huge achievement for our team.

If you call my office, thereā€™s a good chance I'll answer the phone, if you come to one of our open homes, youā€™ll definitely see me and if you look closely through one of our entry condition reports or routine inspections, youā€™ll likely find a very unflattering photo or reflection of me somewhere in the background.

Iā€™m hands-on; every day and it shows in the work we do for our clients.

For us, property management means looking after our investors and the tenants who call their investment properties home, maximising returns, giving our clients the best advice to protect their investments and continuing to improve the way we deliver property management.

While my name might be on the finalist list, the recognition belongs to the team beside me. Janae, Bridie, Charm and Ash have all played a part in what Wombat has become, along with the owners, tenants, referrers and supporters who have backed us along the way.

From opening the doors in January 2024 to now being recognised nationally, itā€™s another sign that weā€™re heading in the right direction.

Our clients recently completed a thoughtful transformation of this Capalaba home, with polished timber floors, fresh paint inside and out, a brand-new bathroom, updated lighting, new ceiling fans, a refreshed deck and new fencing bringing the property to life.

The response from the market was exactly what they were hoping for, with plenty of prospective tenants through the opens and several quality applications to choose from.

The successful applicants came through a referral from one of our current tenants, looking for a long-term place to call home. Another fantastic result for our clients and a great match for this beautifully updated investment.
