We failed to get the idea of a habitat reserve as a northern entrance to Kyneton during the Maccas/24 hour truck stop/ Bunnings fiasco. Let's see if we can have more success with an extension of Bald Hill Reserve habitat associated with the looming VCAT case regarding Mt. St. Marys Lane.

Here are some of our best loved critters grazing at the headwaters of Post Office Creek on land associated with a proposed subdivision at 33 Mt. St. Mary's Lane. Let's protect their grazing rights. There will be a meeting of Friends of Post Office Creek this Sunday at noon to discuss and formalise our strategy for the upcoming negotiations and looming VCAT case scheduled for the 4th,5th,6th and 10th of August. Phone Rob on 0427 580 803 if you want to attend the meeting or get involved.

Thought this was interesting
The Nature Repair Act 2023 (the Act) came into effect on 15 December 2023 establishing a framework for a world-first legislated, national, voluntary biodiversity market. The Act provides legislated rules to support transparency and integrity and to foster collaborative efforts to address environmental decline.

The Nature Repair Market scheme is a government initiative that incentivises actions to restore and protect the environment. It encourages nature positive land management practices that deliver improved biodiversity outcomes. The scheme establishes a marketplace where individuals and organisations can undertake nature repair projects to generate a tradable certificate.

These projects could include:

re-establishing vegetation along waterways
keeping pests and feral species from destroying native species and ecosystems.
Those eligible to take part include:

First Nations people and organisations
conservation groups
farmers.
Projects can be undertaken on Australian land and waters, or a combination of both.

Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom. Great to have a win at VCAT halting urban sprawl, but now we need to all pull together to halt the Council vandalism of cutting down ten mature elm trees in the showgrounds. Yes we all want to see the expansion of recreational and sports facilities but, with some imagination, does not have to come with the destruction of our heritage. Call in to the Co-Op table on Saturday morning to find out more. We are outside the former Hot Variety shop tomorrow from ten to one. We will be at IGA on the last Saturday before Christmas.

Thanks to local residents for highlighting the need to care for our precious waterways.

Thanks also to Sunbury & Macedon Ranges Star Weekly for the article

Frustration at overgrown vegetation along Post Office Creek is mounting, with both Macedon Ranges council and Powercor batting away responsibility …

With Victoria being the most cleared state in Australia - and having lost at least 13 mammal species in the last 200 years - the need for rewilding could not be greater, yet the approach has not taken hold here to the extent it has elsewhere in Australia.

Join us - as we convene leading thinkers to explore whether rewilding can restore nature at the extent and speed we urgently need here in Central Victoria.
