Bees have got the mail…Spring 🌼
Brood inspection on a couple of hives this morning. Numbers are good and brood pattern is tight. Only a couple of queen cells in one hive. This could be partly because I gave them lots of space over a pretty mild coastal winter.

Rinse and repeat.
Different hive, different day, same spot.
Even taking out 17 queen cells a week ago has stopped these ladies. I guess if you got to go u got to go.
What’s really interesting is that this particular bit of bamboo right over the shed seems to be prime real estate for swarms this season. Really easy to grab. Bend the bamboo and in they go.
Thanks for the gear return - they’re ready to travel in the a.m.

When your ladies are making plans.....
31 queen cells across two of our hives.
Despite that, it is great to see that there is plenty of spring coastal flow out there for them.

Saw em go....
They ended up in the bamboo right over our shed and at a pretty reachable height. These girls pretty happy to go straight into a nuc.
All set for pick up tomorrow

This morning and I got into our hives for the first time this Spring.
It seems that stripping out a lot of drawn comb and honey and replacing it with foundation at the end of Autumn has given these bees heaps to do over a mild Winter.
Really pleased to find no queen cells and this awesome brood pattern.

Our last harvest before spring is really dark and thick. Urban bees will definitely surprise you with flavour, colour and viscosity frame to frame.

Awesome work and thanks for the invite to be involved. 😉
Today I changed out some ageing woodware and put back 3 wired frames for the ones that became honey anglaise.

Here are two of the ‘placeholder’ frames i put in two adjacent hives. Check out the difference in 4 days.
The first pic is a primary swarm that has been in the box since October.

I was pretty amazed at the progress of this recently caught swarm. All this brood burr comb in the lid two weeks after they went onto straight foundation.
Girls 🐝n busy.

Had a look inside Charlie’s end hive after seeing some pretty good foraging activity in the beginning of spring.
Business is booming 💪🏼
I found 17 queen cells unhatched. These girls got plans to be moving. 🐝
