The huge old Cotoneaster needs at least a severe hair cut - so overgrown we can’t carry the rubbish out to the skip bin. Removing it will reveal the original fallen down thunder box and the fallen over quince. Back yard clean up before the rebuild is in motion!

Farm life… 3 new tanks - one to capture the rain off the house - once the gutters (and possibly the roof itself) have been replaced. One to go up on the opposite hill to feed the trough and an extra one next to the current one up above the dam. Currently floating around the front paddock because they’re too big to get through the current narrow lane between the horse paddock and cattle yards. So much if this then that going on. The yards are to be relocated and the mess of old gates and rubbish to be removed. Sometime….

Today’s first big job is emptying this old metal cupboard currently lying across what’s left of the outdoor dunny. Full of my mother in law Pat’s Vacola Preserving Bottles plus ratsak and roundup. I would love to get to the point where I have the kitchen and time to bottle pears, peaches, cumquats, quinces etc however that is likely a few seaons away. The bottles would also make fab candle lights for evening events, weddings etc once the garden is in order…

Anyone who takes on a restoration of this scale is either extremely optimistic or certifiably nuts. Maybe we are both! ...

Anyone who takes on a restoration of this scale is either extremely optimistic or certifiably nuts. Maybe we are both! I have so many ideas and a pretty clear vision of what I want it to look like and every time I arrive here I discover something new I didn’t know existed or at least had not seen. Like the patch of Pink Sorrel - Oxails on the south side of the cottage. I will try to relocate them before we add the verandah here.
Anyhoo, thank you for coming along for the ride - it may get rough, it may be long, it will definitely be dirty but in the end I hope it’s worth it!
