My doctor told me my cholesterol was reaching dangerous levels.
Then he looked at me and said, "If you don't shift this weight, you’re going to be watching your grandkids grow up from a hospital bed." That hit me hard.
I’m 56. I’ve had a bit of a gut for years, and I always just made jokes about it. But recently, it stopped being funny. I was waking up exhausted every day. The brain fog was so bad I’d forget what I was doing half the time, and I could feel my heart thumping in my neck just sitting on the lounge.
The worst part was, I was actually trying. I was going for walks every morning and I’d ditched the bread and the junk. I was counting calories like a madman, but the weight wouldn't budge. My stomach stayed hard and bloated, and it felt like my metabolism had just completely stalled.
My daughter is a nurse. She came over for dinner in October and saw me struggling just to get up from the chair. She didn’t lecture me about the gym; she just said, "Dad, your system looks completely inflamed." She explained that for guys our age, it’s not always "eating less." If your body is stuck in an inflammatory loop, it won't let go of the fat and your BP stays sky-high.
She sent me a report to read. I only read it to keep her happy, honestly. I didn't expect much after everything else had failed.
But then things started changing. Day 10: I actually slept through the night for the first time in years. Week 5: I had to buy a new belt because I’d run out of holes. The hard, bloated gut was finally going. Today: I’m 24 kg down. My cholesterol is back in the safe zone and my blood pressure is normal.
I’ve put the link in the comments. I’m no health guru, I’m just a bloke who wants to be around for a long time yet. If you’re feeling stuck and the usual advice isn't working, have a look at this.
