The Boss and I were at Big W in Ballarat the other day when the woman at the checkout asked if we wanted a receipt.
I asked where she was from.

"The Philippines," she said, her face lighting up with a proud smile.

There are many Filipino people in Ballarat, and in my experience they share a remarkable warmth and generosity. I told her that my favourite Filipino in Ballarat is Jun Custodio.

Without hesitation, she smiled and said, "I know Jun. He is a wonderful and respected man."

That came as no surprise.

Jun lays carpet and installs many of the vinyl plank floors in our SDA homes. His workmanship is meticulous, but what impresses me most is his character.

Last year, when Jun turned sixty, he used his birthday money, along with a few donations , to build a plywood ceiling for the church in the village where he grew up in Salamanca in the Philippines.

He did not post about it on social media or seek recognition. He simply saw a need and did something about it.

That is Jun.

A humble man with a heart of gold.

An unsung hero, and a reminder of everything that is great about immigration: hardworking people who arrive quietly, contribute generously, and make their communities better for everyone.

🎨 Making a House Feel Like Home

One of the great things about living in your own SDA villa is the opportunity to personalise your space and make it truly your own.
Our newest resident at our Smythes Creek High Physical Support development wanted a feature wall in her bedroom. After considering many different shades of pink, she chose Pearl Lilac — a beautiful colour with soft pink tones and just a touch of purple.

It is a wonderful choice that adds warmth, personality and style to the room.

At the end of the day, SDA is about more than accessibility. It is about creating a home where people have choice, control and the freedom to express their own tastes and preferences.

We cannot wait to see the finished result.

✨ Custom Adjustable Bench Installed at Our Colac High Physical Support SDA Home

A fantastic example of thoughtful design at our latest High Physical Support SDA development in Colac.

JSK Cabinetry has custom built an adjustable-height bench to provide greater flexibility and accessibility for future residents.

To ensure the bench blends seamlessly with the rest of the kitchen, the same materials and finishes used for the benchtops and base cupboards have been carried through into the design.

The result is a highly functional feature that also looks like an integrated part of the kitchen rather than a separate assistive element.

🏗️ Exciting Progress at Our New High Physical Support SDA Development in Wendouree

Our new High Physical Support SDA villas in Wendouree are getting very close to completion.

The skylights in the bathrooms are a standout feature, filling the rooms with natural light and creating a bright and welcoming space for future residents.

A huge thank you to JSK Cabinetry for their outstanding cabinetry work, and to Matt, the site supervisor from G.J. Gardner Homes, for his excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality throughout the build.

These homes are designed to provide NDIS participants with the privacy, independence and support of living in their own purpose-built home.

We look forward to welcoming residents soon.
