Brendan Mayles Simpson Desert Trek for Youngcare

In May 2017, I will be taking on an epic 250km adventure to trek across the Simpson Desert. Isolation, extreme heat, 1,000 sand dunes, carrying a 12kg pack, sleeping in the wilderness and eating ration packs for 8 days straight are a few of the experiences I have to overcome. But this is nothing compared to what 7000 young Australian’s are currently going through living in aged care because there

are few other options for them to receive dignified, relevant and age-appropriate care and housing, this is an issue that has gone unaddressed for far too long. My goal is to raise $40,000 which will make a significant impact on the lives of young Australians in desperate need in our community. Together we can raise awareness and much needed funds that will enable Youngcare to:
• Build more relevant and age-appropriate housing

• Provide information and support via the national Youngcare Connect service

• Provide grants to keep young people at home who are at high risk of entering aged care, so they can stay in the care of their loved ones, or transition from aged care to their home or more appropriate accommodation

• Undertake research to better understand the needs and wants of young Aussies with high care needs
