Harvest season and old farm sheds.

Plenty of farms across WA still have sheds, outbuildings and fencing made from asbestos cement. After decades of sun, wind and machinery knocking into them, a lot of that material is cracked, brittle or breaking down.

He brings close to 20 years of full-time experience, including extensive HAZMAT experience and qualifications from demanding, high-pressure team roles. He also holds a diploma in Business Management.

Asbestos in the ground.

Asbestos isn't always attached to a building. On older sites, we regularly come across fragments buried in soil, left behind from old fences, demolished sheds or decades-old building waste.

Builders and garden contractors often find it during excavation, footings or garden work, when a shovel turns up broken grey sheeting.

If that happens:
- Stop work in that area
- Don't break, sweep or bag the fragments yourself
- Keep people and machinery away
- Have the material assessed before work resumes

Contaminated soil can spread across a site quickly when machinery keeps moving it around. Getting it assessed early protects your workers and keeps the rest of the project on schedule.

What is a popcorn ceiling?
