A lot of Brant County landowners do not realize there is money available to help improve their property.

Through the Rural Water Quality Program, the County of Brant offers grants that can cover 50% to 100% of certain property improvements that help protect groundwater and local streams.

If you own rural land, this is a program worth knowing about.

Here are a few examples of projects that may qualify for funding:

• Living snow fences (tree planting to reduce drifting snow)
100% covered up to $5,000

• Well decommissioning (safely sealing unused wells)
100% covered up to $2,000

• Tree planting and windbreaks
75% covered up to $6,000

• Erosion control structures like grassed waterways or stream bank stabilization
75% covered up to $10,000

• Exclusion fencing to keep livestock out of waterways
75% to 100% covered up to $10,000

• Manure storage upgrades
50% covered up to $10,000

• Natural area restoration and wildlife habitat creation
75% covered up to $6,000

• Cover crops
$60 per acre incentive (up to 50 acres)

There are also grants available for things like fuel storage improvements, nutrient management plans, machinery crossing upgrades, forest management, and more.

Most projects simply require an Environmental Farm Plan.

Programs like this help landowners improve their property, protect local water, and increase long term land value without carrying the full cost themselves. Many property owners simply do not know these programs exist.
