One question we often receive is: “Do we need to remove everything before moving our house?”

Not necessarily. Depending on the move, furniture, appliances, and even houseplants may be able to stay right where they are. In many ways, your home can move just as you live in it, with the familiar pieces of everyday life still inside.

Here’s a story we always love to share.

To demonstrate how stable and level we keep a house throughout the move, we once placed a glass of water on the kitchen table before the journey began. When the house arrived at its new site, the glass was still there — not a drop had spilled.

We bring decades of experience, precise planning, and deep care to every move, paying close attention to every detail along the way.

Of course, every move is different. Our project manager can help you understand what can safely remain inside your home before moving day.

This 1,300 sq. ft. cottage made quite the journey from Black Creek to its new home on Malcolm Island, BC.

Before the move, our team checked the tides, beach access, overhead wires, and the route from the shoreline to the property. The cottage was moved onto a barge, transported across the water, and carefully unloaded on Malcolm Island before making the final move across the road to its new site.

For every barge move, there comes a point where the water ends and the land begins. That’s where we build the bridge.

It’s also how we approach every move: where the road ends, the challenge begins, and a new way forward needs to be built. Whatever stands between a structure and its destination, we find a way to bridge the gap.

With a footprint designed for flexibility, this 2-bedroom, 1-bathroom home offers modern updates and timeless comfort.

Large front windows and a sliding glass door fill the open-concept living and dining areas with natural light, creating a bright and welcoming space. Fort McAllister features rich wood-look flooring, while wide moldings throughout the home add an elegant finishing touch that enhances its quality craftsmanship.

The thoughtfully designed kitchen features ample counter space, generous storage, light cabinetry, and Corian-style countertops, creating a bright, contemporary space that's both beautiful and functional.

The narrow design of Fort McAllister makes it an excellent choice for properties with limited access — without compromising on style or functionality.

This home is scheduled to be relocated from its current property this September. Don't miss your opportunity to make it yours.

Yes, this is an entire house on wheels.

Raised, supported on steel, and ready to roll, this Port Angeles building is trading its foundation for a short road trip—approximately 300 feet southwest from 2nd Street to Oak Street.

This photo captures an important part of how we make it happen: carefully raising the house, installing the steel support system, and transferring it onto specialized moving equipment. Once the house reaches its new site and the foundation is ready, our crew will return to lower it the final foot into position.

Whether you want to raise your home, reposition it on your property, move it down the road, or transport it by barge to your new property, Nickel Bros is your partner to call. Let’s explore what’s possible and give your home a future you may not have imagined.

Need more space, a new foundation, or simply a better address? Before calling the demolition crew, call Nickel Bros. Your home has more potential than you think.

This beautiful 3-bedroom home from Hamiota Street in Victoria found its new home across the Salish Sea through our specialized barge relocation. Using custom steel supports, hydraulic dollies, and marine transport, our team safely delivered the home to its new destination with precision and care.

At Nickel Bros, we don't just move houses — we connect quality homes with new owners. Our expertise in both overland and marine relocations allows us to source homes from a wider area while helping buyers find options closer to their property whenever possible. Shorter relocation distances can often help reduce transportation costs, making relocated homes an even more affordable alternative to new construction.

Whether you're searching for a character home, planning to build on your property, or looking for a sustainable housing solution, our team can help you find the right fit.

Thinking about buying or relocating a home? We'd love to help.

Most people see a house move; We remember the people behind it.

When this 1915 Dunbar home was facing demolition, its future could have ended there. The developer asked if there was another option. We believed there was.

At Nickel Bros, we've learned that every heritage home has two stories. The one that's already been lived and the one that's still waiting to be written.

We knew a family on Vancouver Island who had spent years hoping to find a character home like this. Suddenly, what looked like the end of one story became the beginning of another.

On move day, the home's former owner drove from Kamloops to watch it leave. After nearly 20 years in the house, he wasn't there to watch a building move. He was there to say goodbye. When asked how he felt, he simply said he was glad it wasn't being torn down.

So were we.

Preserving heritage isn't about keeping every building exactly where it stands. Sometimes it's about giving it the chance to keep being a home.
