Happy WTFriday!! I did a thing today!! 🪂
It was either going to be awesome, or a really sad story. But I'm alive, so it was AWESOME!!

Things that went through my mind today...
- This seemed like a better idea yesterday.
- What could possibly go wrong?

Signs Your Water Heater Is Nearing the End

Your water heater is one of those things you probably don’t think much about - until it stops working.

Most conventional tank-style water heaters last around 8-12 years. If yours is getting up there in age, it’s a good idea to start watching for some of the warning signs that it may be nearing the end of its life.

Age is the first thing to consider. Once a water heater gets into that 8-12 year range, the chances of problems and leaks generally increase. It doesn’t necessarily mean it needs to be replaced right away, but it’s worth planning ahead.

Rusty or discoloured hot water can be another warning sign. Brown or reddish water from the hot taps may indicate corrosion inside the tank.

Strange noises like popping, rumbling or banging are also common with older tanks. This is often caused by sediment building up on the bottom of the tank, which can reduce efficiency and put additional stress on the unit.

Running out of hot water faster than usual or getting inconsistent water temperatures can point to problems with the heating components or thermostat.

And then there are the big ones: water around the base of the tank, visible leaking or signs of corrosion. If the tank itself is leaking, replacement is generally the only real solution.

A water heater usually gives you some warning before it completely fails. Paying attention to these signs can give you time to budget and plan for replacement - rather than discovering the problem when you’re standing in a cold shower or dealing with water damage.
