🥶 BUNDLE UP TONIGHT, SOUTHERN ONTARIO! 🥶
Don’t you miss the red map? Now we have the pink map! We’re gearing up for another polar plunge tonight as bitterly cold temperatures spill across Southern Ontario and settle in through Monday morning.
The coldest air will be focused over Central, Eastern and Southwestern Ontario, especially away from the lakes. Many spots in these regions may dip into the -20s for actual air temperature. Once you factor in the wind chill, it could feel closer to -25 to -30°C if you’re outside early in the morning.
There is still some disagreement among the models about just how cold it gets. A few show temperatures slipping toward the -30°C mark in parts of Central Ontario like Muskoka, Haliburton and Parry Sound, and that’s without wind chill. Others are a bit less extreme, keeping lows in the high teens to low twenties. Models often underestimate these intense cold snaps, so we’ll be watching closely.
Outside of these frigid zones, slightly “milder” air will be found in Deep Southwestern Ontario and along the shorelines of Lakes Ontario, Erie and Huron. Temperatures here should range from the high negative single digits to the low negative teens, with the wind chill making it feel more like -15 to -20°C.
We should see a quick warm up during the day as highs rebound to around -5°C to -10°C. Wind chills will still make it feel well into the teens below zero, so even though it won’t be as sharp as the early morning cold, it will stay quite chilly.
Another cold night is expected Monday night into Tuesday morning, but wind chills should be a bit more moderate, topping out closer to -20°C rather than -30°C in the coldest spots.
It’s definitely a night to turn up the heat, grab an extra blanket and reach for the parka before heading out in the morning.
