Mushy declarations on social media will never be my thing, so I brought my sense of humour out to play, instead, when I made this video. I hope it made you giggle – apologies, as I’m no poet laureate!
And, I know, I know – not everyone celebrates Valentine’s Day, right? I should know – I’m one of them. I've always seen it as a 'Hallmark' opportunity, another means for big business to make money and tell us what to buy. I think somewhere along the line I started to turn into a Valentine's Grinch!
However, as I’ve gotten (just a little!!) older, I can see that it generates income for a lot of small local businesses – think florists, chocolatiers, restaurants and bakeries – and this is wonderful, especially in small, tight-knit communities like ours, where supporting local is especially important.
So... I've learned to lighten up a bit. And on the plus side, there’s no law saying you can’t treat YOURSELF on Valentine's Day, is there? I love the Galentine’s ideas that are doing the rounds, and getting together with friends is always fun. So, on that note, my top 3 recommendations for places to help you to celebrate Valentine’s Day, or Galentine’s Day, in the Columbia Valley this year are…
(1) Inspire, on 7th in Invermere – gorgeous plants and flowers, for the perfect ‘I love you’ moment, or a way to let friends know how much you appreciate them.
(2) The Invermere Bakery, also on 7th, has some amazing sweet treats to help you to celebrate (but get there early – they’re VERY popular!)
(3) The Birchwood, round the corner on 13th, has fantastic food, fabulous cocktails, and a great atmosphere – perfect for a romantic meal for two, or a group celebration with friends (book early to avoid disappointment)
And for those of you that hold Valentine’s Day in a special place in your heart? I hope you have a wonderful day! ❤️💞
