🚁✈️ Public Safety Advisory: MNR Waterbomber Operations — Scooping water from Whitefish Lake
The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) is actively suppressing a wildfire approximately 7km east of Sandstone Lake, and 10km NW of Whitefish estimated at approximately 3 hectares. The fire is not accessible by road, so MNR aircraft are drawing water from Whitefish Lake to support aerial firefighting.
During waterbomber operations, pilots require a long, clear approach and exit path. For everyone on Whitefish Lake:
⚠️ Give Aircraft Space — Move well away from the centre of the lake and any straight‑line flight paths.
⚠️ Stay Near Shore — Keep boats tight to the shoreline until aircraft activity stops.
⚠️ Avoid Wake — Reduce speed; wakes can interfere with safe scooping.
⚠️ Watch for Multiple Passes — Waterbombers often return several times; remain clear until they depart the area.
⚠️ Follow On‑Site Direction — If MNR or fire crews are present, follow all instructions immediately.
These precautions help aircraft scoop safely and allow crews to continue protecting nearby communities and natural areas.
