Radon gas comes from the soil, and manufactured homes are not immune. Even with a v***r barrier in place, small openings can provide an easy pathway for radon to enter.

In this instance, a drain pipe extended from beneath the v***r barrier up into the hot water heater’s overflow pan, creating a direct route for radon gas into the living space.

Radon is pulled indoors by the pressure differences we create every day, from bathroom fans, dryers, and heating systems, drawing gases up from the ground.

💡Tip: If you live in a manufactured home, make sure all penetrations through the v***r barrier are properly sealed, ensure proper venting in the skirting and consider testing for radon, even if you don’t have a basement.

This was the cool find of the day. This attic was wallpapered with old newspaper printing press molds. I had to deep dive AI to learn the process of newspaper printing in the 1950’s; this is what I learned:

A flong is a soft, flexible sheet made from layers of special paper, typically papier-mâché, that is pressed onto a fully assembled typeset page (lead slugs and image blocks). It captures a reverse, embossed impression of the entire page — like a negative mold.

🔁 What It’s Used For:
• The flong is the intermediate mold used to cast a stereotype plate — a lead printing plate used in rotary presses.
• After the flong is made and dried, molten lead is poured onto it to create a curved or flat stereotype plate with raised, correct-facing text for printing
