Monday marked a very special milestone: the groundbreaking ceremony for Axis on Main.

This project has been years in the making, and while there is still a long road ahead, it felt meaningful to pause for a moment and recognize the people who have helped bring it to this point.

Thank you as well to Councillor Glen Gower for taking the time to join us and mark this occasion. We truly appreciated your presence and support.

I am also grateful to the team at Morley Hoppner — Jasmin Bryson, Mike Ayres, and Brendan McCale — for helping guide this project forward as we move into construction.

And thank you to our consultant team, whose work has been essential in getting us here: Lludd ap Gwynn and Max Allen from Prime Architecture, Christine McCaig from Q9 Planning, and Sam Hurd from D+M Structural.

Axis on Main is more than just a building to me. It represents persistence, learning, teamwork, and the beginning of something I am very proud to see take shape.

Here’s to a successful year of construction ahead.

We are also very pleased to be building with Morley Hoppner Construction, with Jasmin Brisson leading the project and Michael Ayres serving as Site Manager. Morley Hoppner also built The Switzer on Main in 2022 — a standout mixed-use building that helped spark the transformation of Stittsville Main Street — and we are proud to be partnering with their team on this exciting development.

We look forward to sharing more as Axis on Main continues to take shape.

The system is obviously broken, but what is a real solution? My deep thought of the day, maybe it is time to stop treating all “landlords” as if they’re the same?

When a tenant stops paying rent, large corporate landlords can absorb the loss. Small landlords can’t — it can put them into personal financial crisis.

Should we be looking at two sets of rules: one for large rental corporations, and one for true small landlords?

A new bill tabled by the provincial government is poised to change tenants' rights at the Landlord and Tenant Board, which some fear could have rippling consequences in Ottawa.
