Something to do this weekend!!
Downtown Lakefield will come alive with shopping, entertainment and family activities as SolarFest takes over Queen Street on Saturday, August 8, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Formerly known as the Lakefield Sidewalk Sale, SolarFest builds on the popular annual tradition with an expanded line-up of vendors, entertainment, and community activities.
Queen Street will be closed to vehicle traffic between Bridge and Reid streets, creating a pedestrian-friendly space filled with local vendors, food, shopping, live entertainment, and activities throughout the day.
One of the day's featured events is “Puppies on the Patio” at 10:00 a.m. at Canoe & Paddle. The event begins with a Sniff & Greet, followed by a "Fun in the Sun" themed fashion parade through the village featuring dogs dressed in nautical, beach, or lake-inspired costumes. Costumes will be judged by Tom LaBranche from Village Pet Food & Supply before participants return to the patio for pup cups, prizes and more. Entry is by donation, with proceeds supporting the Lakefield Animal Welfare Society.
Families can also visit the Children's Village in Cenotaph Park throughout the day, where several local organizations will be offering activities for children and families.
Haliburton Highlands Equestrian will provide pony rides for a small fee, while Mary McGillis brings back the Lakefield Fairy Festival with storytelling, crafts, games and opportunities for children to dress as their favourite fairy or mythical character.
The Peterborough Rugby Club will host a Learn to Play Rugby session from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Lakefield Youth Unlimited will offer games and activities. Visitors can also stop by displays hosted by the Lakefield Village Lions Club and Community Care.
Organizers are encouraging residents and visitors to spend the day exploring downtown businesses, supporting local vendors and enjoying everything SolarFest has to offer.
SolarFest runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, in downtown Lakefield. The event is being hosted by Lakefield businesses in partnership with the Peterborough and the Kawarthas Chamber of Commerce.
