A Remarkable Prince George Home — Ben Ginter’s House

Back in 1960, Ben Ginter’s home in Prince George, BC, was something pretty extraordinary.

The home reportedly cost an astonishing $450,000 to build — an enormous amount of money for that time. Adjusted for inflation, that works out to roughly $4.9 million in today’s dollars.

And this wasn’t just an expensive house. It was also very modern for its time and featured its own swimming pool and a double fireplace — something that would have been quite unusual in Prince George in the 1960s.

Think about that for a moment: a nearly $5-million-equivalent home, complete with a private pool, being built in Prince George more than 65 years ago. It must have been quite a sight when it was brand new!

The home is an interesting piece of Prince George history and a reminder of how different the city was during that era.
