Tamara said, “Hey, it’s my 50th birthday and I think I want to have a party.”

And somehow that turned into…

“Party? Ohhh, we could do a party.”

Then I said, “You know, I bet the weather is going to be pretty good… we should get a HOUSEBOAT.” 😂

Deb immediately said, “I could do the decorations.”

Sylvia and I looked at each other and said, “Ohhh, we could cook up some food.”

Tamara said, “I could invite my friends.”

And BOOM. 🎉

The most perfect day came together.

Blue skies. Calm water. Incredible food. Friends. Gorgeous themed decorations. Music. A houseboat. And then, because apparently the day wasn’t already fun enough, we finished it off with a pirate party fundraiser after parking the boat. 🏴‍☠️😂

What. A. Day.
Sometimes the very best memories start with a simple, “We should have a party.”

Collaboration over competition. 💕
The GranFondo reminded me what that actually means.
We were surrounded by thousands of cyclists riding the exact same 122 km from Vancouver to Whistler. There were people faster than us, stronger than us, more experienced than us — but for me, the goal was never to see who could get there first.

The goal was to get there together.

Sylvia Carpenter and I trained together, met up at the rest stops, checked in on each other, encouraged each other through the hard parts and ultimately crossed that finish line knowing we had accomplished something pretty incredible side by side.
And I think that’s such a good reflection of life and business.

Collaboration doesn’t mean you stop striving to be better. It means understanding that someone else’s success doesn’t take anything away from yours.

Sometimes having the right people beside you actually makes you stronger, pushes you farther and makes the entire experience better.

Could I have ridden my own race? Absolutely.
But I wouldn’t trade the conversations, the laughs, the suffering, the encouragement or the feeling of finishing together just to say I got there a little faster.

There will always be another person ahead of you and another person behind you.
The magic is finding the people you want beside you.
Because sometimes success isn’t about finishing first.
