We’ve Solved Thanksgiving. Mostly? 🍂

Well, we’ve got one part of the equation down!

Unfortunately, our “rent a family member” package was discontinued after the trial run produced far too many hired uncles who wouldn’t stop bringing up things they’d read in the local Facebook group.

You know, the one originally created to discuss farmers markets and lost dogs.

So we’ll stick to cottages!

This cottage has survived some questionable eras...

Waterfront Escape dates back to the 1960s, so it has already survived s**g carpet, plastic furniture and the decision that every cottage should be white, beige and vaguely Scandinavian.

Waterfront Escape stayed out of it.

Instead it kept its vintage rustic charm and eventually accepted a few modern upgrades, like AC and Wi-Fi. Because vintage is charming, but sweating through dinner while struggling to stream a song is less “nostalgic cottage” and more “minor historical reenactment.”

And now that it’s fall the best part of the day is arguably what happens after the day is over.

Come back from Tobermory, light a fire, put on something warm and settle in for an evening discussing the Space Race or whatever people did for fun in the 1960s.

Summer in Tobermory has its charms, but...

Fall has parking. 🍂

It also has quieter trails, fewer people, changing leaves, crisp mornings and significantly less time spent inching through town behind someone who appears to have stopped driving entirely and gotten out of their car.

Getaway guests and locals alike have described fall as having “way less people.”

Others have reported, “I don’t want there to be traffic lights here, but it’s nice that I didn’t have to only make right-hand turns this time.”

We’ve interpreted both as five-star reviews.

I’m sure your backyard is lovely...

But probably no private dock. No kayaks. A regrettable lack of kayaks, really.

And we really have nothing against your backyard. It’s just that unless you or a neighbour have installed a rather impressive inlet of Lake Huron, the waterfront situation is probably limited.

Bayshore Luxe has all of the above, plus three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a fireplace and a full kitchen.

Tobermory is just minutes away if you feel like leaving.

Although after a morning on the dock, an afternoon in a kayak and an evening around the fire, people tend to find reasons to stay put. 🌊🔥

It seems soup season has officially begun...

And soup season means Tobermory is about to get very good at being very cozy. 🍂

The leaves are changing, the air is crisp and The Bruce Trail is looking like it's trying to make it's ex jealous. Take a walk through the forest, head down to Little Tub Harbour, grab a drink or an ice cream or demonstrate true vacation mode and get both. Then head back to the cottage for the main event:

Sometimes too much choice is an issue...

Like picking your nightly show. Are you going to watch that new true crime mini-series, that reality TV show where people marry someone they don't know or some animated show about the power of friendship?

Tobermory likes to keep things simple. Just one show, every night. The sunset!

And I'm willing to bet it would have a higher average user Rotten Tomatoes score than any season of that dragon show.

The sunset doesn't need a gritty reboot or a six-episode backstory aside about the guy who lives in the lighthouse.

It just shows up over Georgian Bay with no buffering or ads. looks incredible for a while and then leaves.

Harbour Rox wasn't supposed to have an opening this weekend but a last-minute cancellation had other plans.
