For 7 years, doctors prescribed me 12 medications for a condition I did not have.

Read that again.

12 meds for a condition I DID NOT have.

20 years ago, after 5 heart attacks, a triple bypass surgery, and a stroke, I was told I would need those medications “for the rest of my life.”

But my blood tests were normal.

There had been no underlying health issues.

Every cardiologist I saw gave me the same answer:

“This is just how things are done when you are a bypass patient.”

For 7 years, I saw over a dozen cardiologists in 2 continents.

Same medications.

Same answer.

Same shrug.

Then one day, a cardiologist in a small office, in a small town looked at my file and said:

“I think I know a specialist in Toronto, the head cardiologist at a top hospital, head of a study, who would be VERY interested in your case.”

I went.

What did I have to lose?

He looked at the tests.

Asked me questions.

Ran his own tests.

Then he said:

“You’re fine. Stop all of these meds. You don’t need them… I know exactly what happened to you.”

The post-op diagnosis had been wrong from the beginning.

The standard prescription for a bypass patient was never the right prescription for ME, in my circumstance.

I have been off ALL medications for 13 years.

Healthy.

No recurrence.

That moment changed how I see and diagnose EVERYTHING.

Health.

Business.

Life.

Most business owners are being treated for the wrong diagnosis.

They are working hard.

Doing what they have been told to do.

Following the standard prescription for what looks like their problem.

And nothing is changing.

Why?

Because the diagnosis was wrong from the beginning.

The first story is almost never the whole story.

The visible problem is almost never the expensive one.

If something in your business has not been moving forward despite everything you have tried, the issue might not be effort.

➡️ It might be the diagnosis.

That is the work I do now. Click the link in the comments 👇🏻 if you’re ready to chat about your business.

Some of the most expensive mistakes start with advice that sounded smart.

I’ve learned this over the years.

Have you noticed this?

Not all advice is bad.

Some of it is actually excellent.

But that doesn’t mean it belongs in your life, your business, your season, your budget, your energy, or your reality.

Someone can tell you:

Spend more money to get more leads.
Post more.
Hire help.
Launch a new product or service.
Push harder.
Scale faster.
Do what worked for them.

And maybe it did work for them.

And maybe they, themselves have never even built the thing they are giving advice on…

They may also not know the full picture of what you’re carrying.

Your capacity.
Your cash flow.
Your family life.
Your health.
Your business model.
Your timing.
Your actual goals.
Your responsibilities.

That context matters.

Because when advice doesn’t work, most people blame themselves.

They think:

“I must have done it wrong.”

But sometimes YOU didn’t fail.

Sometimes the advice never fit you in the first place.

That’s why I’ve become much more careful about whose advice I take, and how quickly I apply it.

Not every proven strategy is your strategy.

Not every smart idea deserves your energy.

And not every person giving advice understands the reality behind your decision.

Context changes everything! Please remember that.

People keep telling me I could never retire early because I “like being busy.”

I’ve been wondering lately if that’s actually true.

Do I like being busy?

Or do I just not know how to sit outside, and enjoy the afternoon without a laptop, without feeling guilty yet?

I’d like to know what breathing easy feels like again.

Maybe that’s what retirement is.

Not stopping…

Just stopping the guilt.

What do you think?

Is AI making you faster… or easier to ignore? 🤔

Because let’s be honest.

There is a lot of content right now that looks “good” for about three seconds.

It’s perfectly formatted. It’s has a perfect rhythm. Grabs your attention…but there’s just something missing.

You read it and think:

Okay…
But they don’t sound like this in real life.

Where is the actual human being?

This is the part I keep coming back to….

AI is not the issue.

Using AI before you’ve had your own thought about a topic is the issue.

Opening an AI tool and asking a question, before you open your own mind to even consider what it is you’re looking for, is the issue.

Letting AI create the meaning, the opinion, the angle, the emotion, and the point of view…

That’s when people have lost the identity they’ve spent their lifetime creating.

The people who win in this AI era won’t be the ones posting the most.

They won’t be the ones prompting their AI tool the fastest.

And they won’t be the ones with 37 A.I. Agents…

They’ll be the ones who still know what they think, how they write, and what their voice sounds like.

They’ll be the ones who write the messy notes first, and still make mistakes.

The ones who push back on the answers A.I. provides to be sure the answers are verifiable.

The ones who say to their AI, “No, that’s not what I meant, or that doesn’t reflect who I am or how I speak.”

The ones who use AI to sharpen what is already real and true about themselves, those are the winners.

AI can help you move faster.

But can it make you easier to ignore?

That’s what we’re working on inside my AI skool community for business owners - using AI without losing your voice, your judgement or your human edge.

I don’t see every problem as a disaster.

I also don’t believe every problem needs to become a whole dramatic production.

Some problems are serious.

Some are painful.

Some are expensive.

Some are exhausting.

But not EVERY problem needs panic or a reaction.

Sometimes the problem is simply asking us to stop reacting and start looking at what is actually going on.

That is where “The Good Problem” my newsletter, came from.

Because most of the time, the problem we think we have is not the REAL problem.

A business owner says they need more sales.

Maybe they do.

But maybe the real problem is that their message is not clear.

Maybe they are selling to the wrong people.

Maybe every decision still runs through them, they have no leverage.

Maybe they keep adding more AI tools, more content, more meetings, more pressure…

when what they actually need is to step back and see the business differently…

That is what I love helping people do.

Look at the real problem.

Ask better questions.

Make better decisions.

Build something that supports their life, not something that quietly takes over it.

Yesterday I launched my LinkedIn newsletter, “The Good Problem.”

In 24 hours, over 300 people subscribed.

That tells me this conversation is resonating.

If you’re tired of turning every problem into panic…

I asked AI a simple question:

“The car wash is 50 meters away. Should I walk or drive?”
It told me to walk.

Which sounds reasonable… until you remember one obvious thing:

The car has to get to the car wash.

This is the part of AI people are not talking about enough.
AI can sound confident and still miss the real-world constraint.

That does not mean AI is bad, unreliable or putting us in jeopardy…

It means human judgment and critical thinking matter more than ever.

The AI gold rush will not be won by the people using AI the fastest.

It will be won by the people who can still think clearly and logically while using it.

I recorded today’s Mindset Medicine episode on this exact question– tune it….it will fascinate you!!

There’s one decision I made in my career that changed everything.

At 33, after five heart attacks, a triple bypass, and a stroke, I made a quiet decision:

👉 I would never again build a business that required me to ignore my body to succeed.

That choice shaped every move after:

I stopped glorifying “push through it” culture.

I started choosing business models that protect energy, not just revenue.

I became obsessed with helping other business owners grow without burning out or losing themselves.

Today, when I sit down with a business owner inside of my strategic business intensive ‘The Lens’, I’m not just looking at offers, operations, and AI. I’m looking at the human running the whole thing.

Because if the strategy “works” but costs you your health, your relationships, or your mind, it’s not a strategy.

It’s a slow exit.

One decision that paid off:

I chose businesses that my future heart could live in. ❤️

What’s one decision you’ve made in your career that changed how you build or lead?

The Business Owner Who Built Themselves a Job They Can’t Quit

A lot of business owners didn’t build a business.

They built a job they can’t quit.

They wanted freedom.

Then they became the salesperson, manager, customer service department, content creator, bookkeeper, problem solver, therapist, firefighter, and human memory bank for every decision.

And now they call it entrepreneurship.

I can say all this confidently because I have been there.

But it isn’t freedom if the whole thing collapses when you stop.

That’s not a business.

That’s a cage with your name on the door.

So, the question is not “how do I work harder?”

The real question is:

“What part of this company only works because I keep rescuing it?”

And the question I have been asking my clients for years is this:

How long could your business run without you?

A day?
A week?
6 months?
A year?

And what would happen to the business after that time?

That is where the real diagnosis starts...and the freedom I help my clients achieve by figuring this out.

AI is not a magic wand.

Shocking! I know.

A lot of business owners were sold the idea that the right AI tool, prompt, or agent platform would suddenly make everything easier.

✔️ The business would run smoother.
✔️ The content would get done.
✔️ The leads would come in.
✔️ The stress would drop.

Yeah.
About that.

AI doesn’t fix what you haven’t named. If you don’t know where your business is leaking time, money, clients, visibility or energy, AI won’t magically solve the real problem.

It may just help you automate the wrong thing faster.
And faster is not always better.
Sometimes faster just means the mess gets bigger.

Think about that for a moment...imagine automating your business into a bigger mess?!

Before you add another AI tool, ask yourself this:

Where are leads slipping away?
Where am I repeating the same tasks?
Where is my follow-up weak?
Where are clients getting confused?
Where am “I” the bottleneck in the business?
What have I outgrown but keep dragging forward?

Answering these questions honestly is where the real work starts.

Not with the AI tool. Nor with the diagnosis.

So if you’ve been adding AI into your business and still feel like something is off, or it’s just not working as seamlessly as you hoped it would, you probably don’t have an AI tool problem.

You have a clarity problem on the issues that actually need attention.

And clarity comes before the tool.

Every. Single. Time.

I keep a small number of 20-minute discovery calls open each week for business owners who want to explore what’s going on, what they may need next, and whether working together is the right fit.
