Which Canadian city would you choose, and why?

A square foot does not carry the same price, or the same meaning, across Canada.

In the first half of 2026, the reported price per square foot for a detached home ranged from $933 in Vancouver to $438 in Halifax. Mississauga stood at $760, Ottawa at $639, Montréal at $553 and Calgary at $464.

The condominium comparison tells a different story, with downtown Vancouver at $1,026 per square foot and downtown Toronto at $650.

If work, family and familiarity did not determine the answer, which of these cities would you choose to call home?

Would you pay more for proximity and urban life, or choose more space and a different pace?

I would be interested not only in the city, but in the reason. What we prioritize often says more about the meaning of home than the price itself.

A little good news for Friday.

Home sales across Canada rose again in July, making it the fourth month in a row.

We are not back to an easy market, but things do appear to be settling into a more balanced rhythm.
