What an amazing transition! Phase 1 in the re-development of The Common Works (TCW) building was an exciting and complex task to take on⦠to say the least ;) As some may know, this historic building has gone through many phases since its inception including a fire and a sloped lean in the building structure! In order to bring the heritage building back to its original look and feel, a combination of diligent and hard work from architects, engineers, construction staff and many others came into play in order to coordinate and execute TCW project!
As seen from the architectural drawings, the sloped roof allowed very little head room for 3rd floor users, and so the removal of that roof was planned in order to have high ceilings throughout each (3) storey of TCW. The building, being a heritage/historic building, needed to be re-structured but not destroyed as it is apart of Truroβs history and we wanted to continue its legacy. With that came a ton of hard work inside and out, as well as reinforcing the building with wooded studs throughout the walls and floors, roof trusses, and nine [9] massive wooden beams supporting each floor which gives the building that rustic and historic look it deserves!
To add to all of this, engineers and construction staff worked incredibly carefully to re-align the building by essentially ratcheting each end with massive steal cables and bring the building neatly in place and aligned level to the ground!!
An incredible success but not without its twists, turns and time! All worth the hard work as we can now see just how beautiful this building is and we could not be more proud of the hard work everyone put into it inside and out. Phase 1 and Phase 1.2 of TCW are both complete and fully leased. With Phase 2 underway, we cannot wait to see the entire project unite 3 buildings into 1, naming it The Common Works building :)
