Most people visiting Tofino have no idea there’s an entire crashed airplane hidden in the forest nearby.

Near Tofino on Vancouver Island, the remains of a Royal Canadian Air Force bomber from the nineteen forties still sit deep in the rainforest after crashing during a training flight in the Second World War.

The wreckage has slowly been reclaimed by the forest over decades, with moss and trees growing around parts of the aircraft. It is one of the most unusual hidden historic sites on the island and many locals still do not even know it exists.

The hike to reach it adds to the mystery because the plane appears suddenly in the middle of dense forest with almost no warning.

It feels more like something from a movie than real life.

Would you ever hike out to see something like this, or would it feel too unsettling standing next to a real crash site hidden in the woods?

Most people visiting Banff have no idea there’s an abandoned mining town hidden in the mountains nearby.

Just outside Banff sits the old mining site of Bankhead, a coal mining community that once supplied fuel to the Canadian Pacific Railway in the early nineteen hundreds.

At its peak, Bankhead had homes, a school, stores, and hundreds of residents living in the mountains surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in Canada. But when coal demand changed and operations became less profitable, the town slowly shut down.

Today, you can still walk through parts of the old site and see foundations, mining remnants, and pieces of the abandoned community hidden in the forest near Banff.

It feels strange knowing that one of Alberta’s busiest tourist areas has a forgotten industrial town sitting right beside it.

Have you ever visited places like this, or do you think history is better left untouched?

There’s a hidden tunnel system beneath Moose Jaw that still fuels one of Canada’s wildest stories.

Underneath Moose Jaw sits a network of underground tunnels tied to some of the most famous stories from the prohibition era. The tunnels were originally built for practical reasons like heating and storage, but over time they became linked to rumours of bootlegging, secret businesses, and even organized crime figures moving through the city unnoticed.

Some stories claim the tunnels were used to move alcohol during prohibition. Others say certain parts were connected to illegal gambling and hidden operations that stayed out of sight from authorities above ground.

Whether every story is true or not, the tunnels became a huge part of Moose Jaw’s identity and remain one of the most unusual historic attractions in western Canada.

It is hard to imagine an entire hidden world existing beneath an ordinary city street.

Do you think most of the legends about places like this are exaggerated over time, or is there probably a lot more truth to them than people realize?

Most people driving the Coquihalla today have no idea how dangerous this highway used to be.

The Coquihalla Highway cuts through some of the harshest mountain terrain in BC, and for decades the route has been known for brutal winter storms, avalanches, and sudden closures.

Before modern avalanche control systems and improved forecasting, sections of the highway could become extremely dangerous within hours. Drivers were sometimes stranded during severe storms, and travel through the mountains was far less predictable than it is today.

Even now, the Coquihalla still has a reputation that makes a lot of BC drivers nervous during winter.

It really shows how challenging mountain travel in western Canada has always been.

What is the worst stretch of highway you have ever driven in BC or Alberta?

It’s hard to believe this tiny Alberta hamlet once had thousands of people living in it.

The small community of Wayne near Drumheller was once one of the busiest coal mining regions in Alberta. In the early nineteen hundreds, the valley was packed with coal mines, workers, hotels, and businesses serving the growing population.

At its peak, more than a dozen mines operated in the area, and the valley was constantly active with trains, mining equipment, and workers moving through the badlands.

Today, Wayne feels completely different. Quiet roads, old structures, and dramatic scenery are all that remain of what was once a booming industrial community.

Driving through the area now almost feels like stepping into another time.

Would you ever explore places like this, or do abandoned historic areas creep you out a little?
