UPDATE MAY 14: Out of caution, the province is closing Whiteshell Provincial Park. All access to the Park will be restricted as of 9 a.m. Thursday, May 15.

All park users, including full-time residents, commercial operators and cottagers, along with campers at various provincial park campgrounds, must leave the park by 1 p.m. Thursday, May 15.


Due to changing wildfire behaviour, Manitoba Parks will be implementing mandatory evacuations in the following areas:

South Whiteshell:

➡ Caddy Lake Blocks 1 , 2, 5, 6, 7 & 8 and Green Bay Resort

➡ West Hawk Lake – McDougall’s Landing, Big Island Landing and Indian Bay

➡ Florence Lake, Nora Lake and Ophir Siding

North Whiteshell:

➡ Crowduck Lake – including Crowduck Lake Camp

➡ Big Whiteshell Lake – all cottage blocks, including campgrounds

Residents and cottagers and commercial operators are being put on a 2 hour evacuation notice and must be out by 5 pm. Cottagers, residents and commercial operators are to check in at reception centres in the following locations, for South Whiteshell at the West Hawk Lake Fire Hall, for North Whiteshell at the Rennie District Office.

Please see the latest wildfire update issued by Manitoba Parks in Fire Bulletin #5, dated May 13, 2025.
Due to the active wildfire KEN020 burning near Ingolf, Ontario, several trails, water routes, portages, and backcountry campsites in Whiteshell Provincial Park are now closed until further notice. Manitoba Parks has also issued an evacuation preparedness advisory for:
• Cottagers on the north side of West Hawk Lake
• Caddy Lake
• Florence/Nora Lake
Residents in these areas are strongly encouraged to be ready to evacuate should conditions worsen.
In addition, a State of Local Emergency (SOLE) has been declared for Nopiming, Wallace Lake, South Atikaki, and Manigotagan River parks, with mandatory evacuations now in effect for several lakes and camp areas.

Fall hunting seasons are now open in many provincial parks. Trail users are reminded hunters may be encountered along trails. Stay on designated trails and always keep pets on leash. High visibility clothing is recommended.

Did you know?

Caddy Lake was named in 1925 after J.S. Caddy, a CP Railway construction engineer.

The main CP Railway line passes to the north of the lake. A tunnel underneath the line was created to restore the lake's drainage (which was impacted by the construction of the railway) north into South Cross Lake.
