Look who decided to visit Pura Vidaville! 🌿 We've recently been spotting the Southern Lapwing hanging out close to Laguna Tranquila. This beautiful, raucous shorebird is actually a rare sighting for our region here in Bijagua, so we are thrilled they chose our little oasis to rest. Come visit and see what rare wildlife you can spot next! 🦜 🇨🇷

Five minutes from Pura Vidaville, this little one was hanging out in a cecropia tree, munching leaves and moving at it’s own relaxed pace. 🌿

Two howler monkey troops arguing over who owns the Pura Vidaville backyard!! Once in a lifetime experience today, soooo cool!! 🐵

A howler monkey (Mono Congo) is a large monkey from the tropical forests of Central and South America, best known for being one of the loudest land animals on Earth! Its deep, roaring call can carry up to 3 to 5 km through the forest. An enlarged bone in its throat works like an echo chamber to amplify the sound. Howlers usually call at dawn and dusk to tell other troops where they are, so in Costa Rica they're often the jungle's alarm clock. ⏰

The species you'll see at Pura Vidaville is the mantled howler. It has black fur with a fringe of golden-brown hair along its sides, and adults weigh roughly 5-10 kg. Howlers live in small troops of about 10-20 and spend almost all their time high in the trees. They use their strong prehensile tail like a fifth hand. They eat mostly leaves, plus some fruit and flowers. Leaves don't give them much energy, so they spend a lot of the day resting, much like sloths.

Buenos días from Pura Vidaville! ☁️

The cloud forest rolled in overnight, wrapping our new chalets in a soft blanket of mist. This is Pura Vidaville magic — cool mornings, birdsong in the clouds, and coffee that tastes better with a view like this! 🦜☕

By midday the clouds lift to reveal the volcano, and Rio Celeste's turquoise waters are just down the road. 💦 🌋

Look who visited the property today! 🌿 We were thrilled to some beautiful Motmots hanging out right by the gate. Thanks to Andrew for helping with the ID! There is a stunning jungle birds are famous for the unique "spoon" or racket shape at the end of their tails, which they swing like a pendulum when checking things out! Seeing their vibrant deep greens and rich colors up close is always such a treat. Have you ever been lucky enough to see a motmot? 👇🦜
