June was a crazy month! 24 days in The Land of the Lost (Current USA)

Mom got scammed by the lowest form of life, those who prey on the elderly.

She is now thriving in Costa Rica with me!!

Mother Nature did a little tree topping for me last night! 😁

Heliconia never stood a chance last night.

5:00 p.m. departure. Thunder cracking, lightning flashing, rain coming down sideways. Picked up birthday girl #1 just in time to encounter obstacle #1: a tree across the road. Thankfully, a heroic stranger was already out there chopping it up like a Costa Rican Paul Bunyan.

Onward to birthday girl #2 through what looked like the opening scene of a disaster movie — fallen trees everywhere. Halfway down the mountain, we collectively decided that if this was the drive to dinner, the drive home after cocktails was probably not going to improve our odds.

So we turned around.

Naturally, the rain stopped immediately.

Encouraged by this obvious psychological manipulation from Mother Nature, we turned back around and headed toward the highway… only to find traffic backed up at the entrance to Ojochal with something going very wrong on the highway.

At that point, the universe had officially spoken:
“No Heliconia for you tonight.”

We surrendered gracefully, returned all birthday girls safely to their homes, raided the refrigerator, and called it an adventure.

Had to stop in the middle of my shower just to watch this guy. So many birds, butterflies, and even the giant grasshoppers love the Mimosa!!
