They say that when it appears, it means something is definitely going to happen, and its appearance cannot be normal.
Its appearance has been linked to major environmental disasters in the past, especially in 2011 and 2013.
What is the story of the "Doomsday Fish," and why has it reappeared now? Let me tell you the tale.
In just one moment, what started as an ordinary day on a beach in Ireland turned into a terrifying story.
People walking by spotted something strange in the water—long and shiny. As they got closer, they realized it was a huge fish, unlike any they had ever seen before. It was about 2.5 meters long, with a thin, ribbon-like body. It was moving with difficulty, clearly dying.
It turned out to be an Oarfish, commonly known as the "Doomsday Fish."
Seeing one washed ashore is extremely rare, which caused great concern, especially since in cultures like Japan, its appearance is associated with disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis. They call it the "Messenger from the Sea."
What added to the fear was the belief that these fish had appeared before major earthquakes, such as the one that struck Japan in 2011. So any sighting is interpreted as a warning or a sign of things to come.
The problem is that this species lives at great depths, reaching up to 3,200 meters below the surface. Seeing them like this led many to believe it is an omen of an impending disaster.
When two of these fish washed up on the shores of California in 2013, some scientists suggested that their deaths might be caused by seismic activity occurring on the ocean floor days or weeks before an earthquake, which affects deep-sea creatures.
Another theory is that before earthquakes, large amounts of gases are released from within the Earth, which could affect these fish and force them to the surface or cause their death.
So, could their appearance be linked to a major earthquake or tsunami on the way?
Could nature be trying to tell us something?
And what would make a fish that lives in such deep waters suddenly come to the surface now?
