Bliss…
I visited Caballo Blanco Horse Riding in early April as a solo traveller and had an incredible experience from start to finish. The transfer from Malaga was perfectly organised and Simon, the driver, kept in easy contact throughout my journey. After lunch in the nearby spa town of Lanjarón, he took me and two other guests to the Alpujarra Guesthouse, run by Emily. Set high in the mountains just five minutes from the stables, it truly felt like a little slice of heaven. Emily is a fantastic host, her homemade food was delicious, and her dog Valkyr was a joy to be around.
After a peaceful night and a hearty breakfast, Emily drove us to the stables where I was introduced to Pieper, a beautiful Andalusian horse carefully matched to me by Sarah based on my riding experience. I hadn’t ridden properly for over 40 years, but I felt completely at ease with Pieper, who was calm, responsive, and a joy to ride. Each day we spent around five hours trekking through the quiet and stunning mountain scenery, with a mix of walking, trotting and the occasional canter. Our guide, Finn, was relaxed, encouraging and ensured everyone felt comfortable.
We stayed one night at Lally’s guesthouse, another lovely stop with great food and even a pool for a refreshing dip. Our luggage was transported for us each day, which made everything effortless. The final night was spent in a hotel in Lanjarón before Simon took us back to the airport the next morning.
One thing that truly impressed me is that many of the horses, and even some of the dogs at the stables, are rescues. This was one of the main reasons I chose to book with Sarah, and I was not disappointed. The care and rehabilitation these animals receive is inspiring. The horses are sure-footed, well cared for, and clearly loved.
This wasn’t just a trekking holiday; it was a wholesome, mindful and uplifting experience. I made wonderful new friends and I am already planning to return for a longer stay. If you want an unforgettable riding holiday surrounded by nature, wonderful people and happy horses, I can’t recommend Caballo Blanco enough.
