Can you believe we have reached the final day of August already? I honestly don’t know where the days have gone. Time really does fly when the sun is shining and life is happening around us.
For some, today is the final day of a wonderful holiday. For others, the countdown to Puerto de Mogán has only just begun. Wherever you are reading from this morning, I hope September brings you something lovely to look forward to 😊

We are expecting another beautiful, hot and sunny day in Puerto de Mogán.

The sea is forecast to be moderate, so please pay attention to the flags before entering the water. Conditions can change during the day, even when the beach looks calm.
🚩 Remember that Playa Chica has its own flag
The little beach the colourful mosaic sign at the end of the beach has a separate flag system from the main beach. Always check the flag at the beach where you intend to swim.
Playa Chica is one of the most peaceful places for a swim in the village and is easily missed by visitors. It can be a lovely little alternative, particularly earlier in the day.

✈️ GRAN CANARIA AIRPORT
The latest airport forecast indicates good visibility and normal flying conditions, although northerly winds may occasionally become strong.
If you are flying to the UK or another country outside the Schengen area, remember that passport control is located after security in the D gate area.
💡 Departure advice
Queues at passport control can build quickly, so don’t spend too long shopping or eating after passing through security.
Families travelling with children under the age of 12 should go directly to a staffed passport control desk rather than the electronic gates.
Please always follow the airport signs and instructions from staff on the day of travel.
📚 SEPTEMBER DATES TO REMEMBER
🎒 Local children begin returning to school from Wednesday 9th September, depending on their educational level and school.
🌿 Sunday 6th September
The Mango and Summer Avocado Fair returns to Puerto de Mogán.
It will take place along the promenade between the Cordial area and the beach, with locally grown mangoes, avocados and other Canarian produce.
This is always a lovely opportunity to support local farmers and taste some of the wonderful fruit grown here in the municipality. I will share more information closer to Sunday.
🌲 Tuesday 8th September
The Day of Our Lady of the Pine, Virgen del Pino, is an official public holiday across Gran Canaria.
It honours the patron saint of the Diocese of the Canary Islands and is one of the most important traditional celebrations on the island. Banks, schools and public offices will be closed. Some shops and businesses may also have reduced opening hours.
Don’t plan a shopping day outside Mogan this day as it will be closed.

🐟 FRESH FISH FROM THE HARBOUR
The fish shop at the Cofradía de Pescadores, located on the pier, is open today from:

A good place to look for fresh local fish and see a little more of Puerto de Mogán’s working fishing tradition.
📰 LOOKING FOR AN ENGLISH NEWSPAPER?
English newspapers are usually available at SuperDino. Delivery and availability can vary, so going earlier in the day gives you the best chance of finding one.
🍴 YOUR FIRST TASTE OF CANARIAN LIFE
You cannot visit Gran Canaria without trying at least a few of these favourites:

🔒 PLEASE DON’T PUT PADLOCKS ON THE BLUE BRIDGE
A gentle but important reminder.
Please don’t attach love locks or padlocks to the blue bridge. They cause rust and create a considerable amount of extra work for the people who must remove them.
The locks will not remain there, so please choose another way to mark your special memories together. Respecting public property helps keep Puerto de Mogán beautiful for everyone.
🛍️ TOMORROW IS MARKET DAY
Tuesday is market day in Arguineguín.
It can make a pleasant little day out from Puerto de Mogán. One lovely option is to take the ferry in one direction and return by Global bus, or do the journey the other way around.
Check the current ferry and bus times before leaving, particularly if you plan to return later in the afternoon.
🌿 TODAY’S LOCAL DISCOVERY: MOGÁN VILLAGE
Did you know there is another side of Mogán, only around 15 to 20 minutes inland from the coast?
Mogán Casco is the original village and the historical and administrative heart of the municipality. It sits among mountains, palm trees and terraced farmland, offering a completely different atmosphere from Puerto de Mogán.
Puerto de Mogán feels open, colourful and maritime. Mogán village feels rural, peaceful and deeply connected to everyday Canarian life.
🏡 WHAT CAN YOU SEE?
⛪ The Church of San Antonio de Padua and its peaceful square
🏠 Traditional Canarian houses with tiled roofs and wooden balconies
🌴 Mountain scenery, palm groves and views across the valley
🚶 Quiet streets that are perfect for a gentle walk and photography
☕ Small local cafés where life moves at a slower pace
The air can feel slightly cooler than it does beside the beach, particularly during winter or in shaded areas. Taking a light cardigan is sensible outside the summer months.
🌬️ EL MOLINO QUEMADO
Just outside the centre stands El Molino Quemado, the Burnt Windmill.
Long before Puerto de Mogán had its modern harbour, windmills played an important role in grinding grain for local communities. The name refers to a fire that damaged the mill many years ago.
Today it has been restored and remains a quiet reminder of the agricultural life that shaped this valley.
There is a lovely cafe there as well !
🚌 GETTING THERE
Global bus 84 to Mogan or 38 travels from Puerto de Mogán through Mogán village on its route towards La Aldea de San Nicolás.
The journey to Mogán Casco takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, but services are not very frequent. Please check the current timetable carefully before travelling, including the time of your return bus.
By car, it is a short and scenic journey up the valley, with parking available around the village centre.
🍽️ LUNCH IN MOGÁN VILLAGE
The village is a good place to enjoy traditional Canarian cooking.
Acaymo is well known for generous portions and dishes such as goat, pork, stews and papas arrugadas.
Restaurante El Molino Quemado, beside the windmill, is another popular choice for traditional meat, fish and vegetable dishes.
Booking ahead is recommended, especially at weekends. Opening times can change, so always confirm before travelling specifically for a restaurant.
A beach morning followed by lunch and a gentle walk through Mogán village can make a wonderful half day outing. It is not flashy or crowded, and that is precisely its charm 💚
