Look at the bats! We don’t get many mosquitos due to the dry climate, but they pop up at dusk at certain times of the year. Great to see nature in action on our doorstep.

We’re a British family who moved to rural Spain.

We can to a country where family is at the centre of everything… children are welcomed and celebrated everywhere you go. Every event is a multigenerational get together 🧡

When we arrived, we planned on building something that worked around our own kids. But then we discovered the Worldschooling philosophy in action, and realised what we’d actually come here to do: build something that would benefit the whole family.

We never expected the world to show up at our door.
Families from different cultures, with different languages and ways of learning…ways of living. By moving to rural Spain, we somehow found ourselves part of a global community!

It feels like a Worldschool staycation, real connection with families living alongside each other. Families who benefit from shared days, and children growing up knowing there’s more than one way to create a work/life balance!

Any family can do this. There’s no single formula, just an unlimited number of ways to do it.

Today our Month in the Mountains families got to experience hands-on, up-close education at .buho

This is learning that kids don’t forget. Meeting & interacting with animals, asking questions and experiencing things for real.

The kind of education that stays with you long after the day is over. What makes it so special is Matilda’s vast and intricate knowledge of this species of bird.

We came across this recent survey of 2,000 UK parents and we thought you’d find it interesting…

The questions around flexibility, one-size-fits-all education, hands-on learning and giving children more opportunities to experience the world beyond the classroom resonates with us and all the families we meet. These are the conversations we find ourselves having with all the time at Shepherd’s Rest.

This is why we’ve created what we have here. A space where families can live alongside one another, work remotely, share experiences, give their children a rich social life, get outside, learn through real experiences… and, perhaps most importantly, have the space to think & breathe as a family.

There doesn’t have to be one way of doing family life, work & education. We’re creating a place where families can find their own rhythm. Somewhere to build a little more of that elusive work-life balance around what actually works for them.
