The music mentors spent the entire week coaching the tweens & teens, to then be faced with delays due to the storm in the UK…but they turned that delay into a musical opportunity! Spending a few hours at the piano setup in Alicante airport 🎶

The School of Rock week has been SO MUCH fun here at Shepherd's Rest. The level of enthusiasm and creativity with song writing workshops... also the focus and commitment all the children put into learning the songs throughout the week. The aching arms from the drumming and the fingers sore from guitar practise was not going to put anyone off.

The social side of forming bands together has such a positive effect. Music brings people together, and having the chance to just try out different instruments to see which you ones you prefer... or even having a go at being at the front of the band and singing!

We had a few special guest mentors here to give the children that one to one coaching that builds their confidence individually. These mentors also keep everybody focused and motivated to perform at the level they know the children are capable of. It's a very nurturing and encouraging thing to witness!

Imagine forcing a self-employed adult to abandon their business and get a regular job, despite being successful.

No chance, right?

So how are we still forcing children into their nearest school that offers a standardised curriculum… when these children are thriving as self-directed learners; supported by active & engaged families?

Of course children need an adequate education. But being educated and being in school are not the same thing.

When the self employed business owner doesn’t succeed, they keep trying. Same for those children who follow their own uniquely customised educational pathway.

Why should conformity matter more than a child’s development?

When will education be allowed it’s overdue evolution?

There is availability in December & January at Shepherd's Rest.

This is an opportunity for families to live and grow alongside one another. Each week there will be 2 × 2 hour art workshops and a family hike in the mountains. Each weekend there will also be a community bring & share meal.

Each family follows their own rhythm. This is a time dive into personal projects, share interests & travel stories with other families, or just relax and soak in the mountain air and vast open surroundings.

We provide a curated list of places to visit to inspire your explorations, and families share a WhatsApp group to coordinate trips and days out together.

It’s a chance to learn by sharing skills, swapping ideas, and connecting through the natural flow of daily life. There’s no fixed curriculum or schedule (other than the art workshops) just a supportive & like-minded community... a month full of freedom and connection!
