Buying property in Spain is exciting… until someone suddenly asks for your NIE number.

The good news?
It’s completely normal — and yes, you’ll need one if you want to buy property in Spain.

Your NIE (“Número de Identificación de Extranjero”) is basically your identification number as a foreigner in Spain. You’ll need it for buying a property, opening a bank account, signing at the notary, setting up water supply contracts and many other official steps along the way.

The important part:
Don’t leave it until the last minute. Depending on the region and appointment availability, the process can sometimes take longer than expected.

Another happy signing day. 🤍

Today, we, Marion & Tania had the pleasure of accompanying both buyer and seller to the notary - one chapter closing, another one beginning.

There’s always something special about these moments. The excitement, the smiles, the key handover… and that little pause afterwards when it finally sinks in: it’s official. This time the buyer paid only 5% tax (instead of 10%) because she is under 35 years old. A great opportunity for young people to obtain their own home. Bravo!
