At Viruta Lab, we name each piece of architecture after the colour of the pencil that has drawn it from the very first sketch.

A colour that captures its essence.

The pencil shaving is all that remains at the end of the process.

La arquitectura también la construimos desde la materia.

En Terraza Arrancapins, una paleta de tierras, arenas y arcillas recorre la cubierta para unificar muros, pavimentos, plataformas y jardineras.

Sobre esta base, la luz natural, filtrada por la vegetación y las celosías, transforma el espacio a lo largo del día y se convierte en el principal material del proyecto.

En esta arquitectura silenciosa, el color queda reservado a pequeñas piezas de mobiliario y textiles.

Diseñamos la Terraza Arrancapins como un paisaje cotidiano donde cada gesto encuentra su lugar: desayunar al sol, compartir una comida bajo la pérgola, descansar entre la vegetación o alargar una conversación al caer la tarde.

La secuencia de plataformas, que organiza las distintas formas de habitar, está delimitada mediante grandes jardineras de obra que funcionan simultáneamente como elementos de contención, separación y mobiliario.

El recorrido invita a descubrir el espacio de manera intuitiva, dejando que cada rincón encuentre su propio ritmo.

We designed Arrancapins Terrace as an everyday landscape where every moment finds its place: enjoying breakfast in the sun, sharing a meal beneath the pergola, unwinding among the greenery, or lingering in conversation as evening falls.

A sequence of platforms organizes the different ways of inhabiting the terrace, defined by large built-in planters that simultaneously serve as retaining elements, spatial dividers, and furniture.

The layout invites an intuitive journey through the space, allowing each corner to find its own rhythm.

En nuestro nuevo proyecto, Terraza Arrancapins, recuperamos la memoria del lugar.

In our latest project, Arrancapins Terrace, we reconnect with the site’s memory.

In the Arrancapins neighbourhood, where orchards and pine groves once stood, we propose a simple gesture: bringing nature back into the city.

The rooftop is no longer the boundary of the home, but becomes an elevated garden. A space where architecture, vegetation, and everyday life come together to create a single domestic landscape suspended above the urban fabric.

At Casa Altea, the layout is conceived as a sequence of spaces that engage in a dialogue with the surrounding landscape. The main floor opens towards the Mediterranean as one continuous living space, while a system of sliding wooden panels modulates light, views and privacy.

The bedrooms are located in the most sheltered area of the home, creating a calm retreat for rest, while the upper floor completes the spatial journey with a study and a terrace conceived as a lookout over the Mascarat.

Desde el inicio evitamos cualquier imaginario marinero literal, sin redes, sin anclas, sin azules obvios ni nostalgia costera.

En su lugar, trabajamos con la roca, la sombra, la bruma y el horizonte para convertir la vivienda en una cueva abierta al Mediterráneo, cálida, serena y conectada con su entorno.

From the outset, we avoided any literal nautical imagery: no nets, no anchors, no obvious blues, and no coastal nostalgia.

Instead, we worked with rock, shadow, mist, and horizon to turn the home into a cave open to the Mediterranean: warm, serene, and deeply connected to its surroundings.

El diseño nace del análisis previo del entorno del Mascarat para vincular la arquitectura al territorio tanto a nivel conceptual como visual.

Así, la madera listonada interpreta las estrías de la roca del acantilado, como una piel filtrante y casi geológica que introduce profundidad, sombra y ritmo.

The design stems from a prior analysis of the Mascarat surroundings, aiming to connect the architecture to its territory both conceptually and visually.

Thus, the slatted wood interprets the striations of the cliff rock, acting as a filtering, almost geological skin that introduces depth, shadow, and rhythm.

El sistema de paneles correderos nos permiten graduar las vistas, la intimidad y la conexión entre estancias, igual que el paisaje alterna aperturas, cortes, sombras y fugas hacia el mar.

The sliding panel system allows us to modulate views, privacy, and the connection between spaces, much like the landscape alternates between openings, cuts, shadows, and glimpses toward the sea.
