Loving the rooftops in Bonnieux! đ
The older-style roof tiles that adorn most houses in Provence are called 'tuiles-canal' and the textures formed by their irregular shapes, the range of colors from pale ochre and cream through orange, pink, brown and weathered grey are quite beguiling. đ
They are named for the channel they form to direct rainwater. The two layers are the 'tuile de courant' underneath, laid concave up and forming a little rainwater channel and these are covered by the 'tuile de couvert', laid convex-down over the joints between the lower tiles.
