Chateau Citadelle du Cavalier

Chateau Citadelle du Cavalier Our Life and Renovation of a 15th Century Chateau and Citadelle. They loved the house, but had a very turbulent life there.
(1)

Once upon a time, not so long ago, there was a couple, who fell in love, had a fairytale whirlwind romance and married 18 months later. They bought a run down house in the UK which they totally renovated and stayed there for 23 years, in that time they had 9 Cavalier spaniels and last, but not least, a little poodle cross breed. They had always yearned to live in France, but life and events had go

t in the way. Then, two years ago, they decided the time was right to move, it took them a year to organise but eventually, they put the house up for sale, they managed to get it on the market last September. Then the weather turned, six months of non stop rain, the garden was like a bog, with the dogs running in and out, there was mud everywhere, it was a nightmare. At last the weather changed and a beautiful spring emerged, they then got some viewings and accepted an offer, but another knock back was round the corner, the dreaded Covid struck and everything went into lockdown. Thinking their sale would collapse, they carried on working like trojans and hoping it would still happen, to their surprise the sale was still going ahead, but where were they to go? There was a travel ban and no holiday homes to rent, or letting agents that would allow 3 dogs! A week before they exchanged, a friend came to the rescue, with his empty cottage which they could rent till they were allowed to travel. They finally made it over to France at the beginning of Aug, were they are now renting a lovely holiday home from another dear friend. They were so exhausted when they got there, they almost sleep for a month, when they finally awoke they then set about looking at properties, scouring the internet day after day, with lots of viewings and travelling around, they finally found their dream new home. They're still waiting to move in for the spring, but are so excited for their new adventure to begin, the rest will follow as you will see ♥

Episode 315 is now live! ❤️ https://youtu.be/JUCJUN8cgu0

During this intense French heatwave we slowed things down a little at the Citadelle… restoring beauty instead of battling chaos for a change. 😊

Suzie adds a touch of gold to our Rococo Revival bed in the cool Tower Room while outside we finally uncover the old stone pathway once again after a year hidden beneath rubble and debris and we take a little look back at its discovery from Episode 4 back in 2022. .

There’s also potager gardening, compost building, fruit trees heavy with summer fruit and a little look back at one of our earliest discoveries from Episode 4 back in 2022.

We hope you enjoy this quieter summer episode. ☀️🇫🇷

What’s Rols up to in our latest episode?

He kicked off this hot, hazy day with a bit of mystery— In one of the barns hunting for salvaged materials.
It turned into a brilliant job, re-using metalwork and wire fencing from the old dog kennels we dismantled when we first arrived here.

Full episode live this evening!

It’s a peaceful one, full of garden vibes, upcycling, and some of our signature quiet homestead vibe.

See you later, Suzie xx
