🌿 Slow living… beside a river that occasionally forgets to 🌿

After 35 days of torrential rain, the river here truly found its voice. It roared, surged, and for a while looked rather too enthusiastic for comfort.

There have been real difficulties too. Some families nearby have suffered flooding, and that’s never romantic or picturesque — it’s exhausting, upsetting and disruptive. When water comes where it shouldn’t, it’s simply unpleasant. My heart genuinely goes out to those affected.

And yet… life in the Lot has this steady undercurrent of resilience. The river may rush, but the people don’t. We check on each other. We compare notes. We move furniture upstairs if needed. We make tea. We carry on.

Now the skies have cleared. The light has changed. Blossom is out. The vineyards are stirring back to life. Café terraces are reappearing as if nothing dramatic happened at all. Spring doesn’t erase what’s been difficult — but it does bring that quiet sense of renewal.

Living riverside teaches perspective. Nature is powerful, yes — but it is also cyclical. Storms pass. Water levels fall. Mud dries. Shoots push through.

The river still moves with purpose this morning, but the pace of life beside it remains wonderfully slow. Market days continue. Neighbours linger for a chat. Lunch stretches comfortably into the afternoon.

That’s the Lot.
Sometimes dramatic.
