Artisan Central Artisan Central is the only English-speaking pre-checked trade directory. Download our Tradespeople Review Checklist https://tinyurl.com/ReviewCheclist

Members are vetted, so potential customers know that they are insured to do what they say they can. We created Artisan Central to fill the need for an online directory of skilled and pre-checked artisans working in France – a unique combination that homeowners have been waiting for. Since our launch in February 2017, we have been inviting artisans who pride themselves on quality workmanship and ex

cellent customer service to apply. We connect homeowners with registered and insured artisans in their area. The website is free for customers to use.

** What makes us different? Artisan Central is the only English speaking pre-checked trade directory. And we actively promote our site and members so that potential customers who are genuinely looking for professionals connect with ours. Artisan Central is a directory where only pre-checked trades can truly stand out. Members do not have to compete with trades who are not sireted or appropriately insured. When potential customers visit Artisan Central, they can make better-informed choices because they know that the trades they want to work with are pre-checked.

** Promoting Artisan Central members
We don’t just host a profile on the Artisan Central website, we actively promote our members at every opportunity and you can see numerous examples on this page. We love promoting and sharing information about our members, their projects, their trade and skills

** Want us to help you grow your business and attract new clients? We have Gold, Silver and Bronze packages at budgets to suit. However, many of our members opt straight for Gold for maximum benefit, particularly as Gold allows YOUR clients to leave reviews about your work, which itself is a great selling point when other potential customers are looking to work with you.

** Contact [email protected] and we will take you through the process.

Working in 40°C isn't business as usual

With temperatures forecast to reach 38–40°C across many parts of France as of now and into next week, thousands of professional trades will be adapting how they work to protect both themselves and the quality of your project.

Roofers, scaffolders, electricians working in roof spaces, plasterers, landscapers, and many others will face temperatures well above those shown in the weather forecast.

If your contractor starts earlier than usual, takes more frequent breaks or finishes earlier in the afternoon, it isn't a lack of commitment. It's professional judgement.

Extreme heat affects:
☀️ People
☀️ Materials
☀️ Installation quality
☀️ Site safety

Sometimes the most professional decision is not to push through difficult conditions but to adapt the workday instead.

A quality job is worth waiting an extra hour for.

Question for both homeowners and trades...

At what point does a "free quote" become professional consultancy?

For example: A trade travels to site, spends time assessing the work, takes measurements, researches materials, prepares drawings or plans, obtains supplier pricing and then produces a detailed devis.

Some projects can involve several hours of work before a quote is even submitted.

Should all of that be included as part of a free quotation process?

Or is there a point where expertise, planning and technical assessment should carry a value of its own?

A full diary doesn't automatically mean a profitable business.

Many trades are feeling the pressure of rising material costs, increasing compliance obligations, and tighter margins, yet still hesitate to raise their prices for fear of losing work.

In our latest Artisan Central article, we explore how professional trades can price with confidence, protect their margins, handle competing quotes at lower prices, and build a sustainable business for the long term.

Because turnover pays the bills. Profit builds the business.

In the trades, customers aren’t just buying a service.
They’re buying confidence in the person delivering it.

Trust is a currency, and once damaged, it’s hard to recover.

It takes years of early mornings, hard work, honest advice, and consistent standards to build a strong reputation.

But one careless moment can undo it.

For self-employed tradespeople, trust will always be your most valuable asset.

Why do some tradespeople cost more than others in France?
It’s a question homeowners ask more and more, especially when one quote arrives at €250 and another at €600 for seemingly similar work.

Our latest article at Artisan Central explores the difference between:
• a day-rate tradesperson
• and a professionally structured artisan business

This isn’t about criticising microentrepreneurs or creating division within the trades.

It’s about helping homeowners better understand and speaks directly to the many good tradespeople quietly trying to do things properly.

Because often, the real difference between quotes is not simply the work itself… It’s the business structure, responsibility, and long-term accountability sitting behind it.

We suspect many homeowners and good tradespeople will relate to this one :)
