Our Rose Tinted Life

Our Rose Tinted Life A new start on a tight budget. Paint, chaos, broken bones. We’ll keep looking through our rose-tinted glasses or even better a glass half full of rosé. 😁

Come and stay. 😁

Been a bit of a radio silence from me this January. Remember these blue skies? They are still up there and spring can’t come soon enough. It’s a new feeling for me how a heap of metal in your leg makes cold and damp weather pretty unbearable. Proper PLOMS (Translation Poor Little Old Me Syndrome 😬🥶😂) I’m not going to allow yesterday’s relentless wind and lashing rain to live in my head.. So today I’m thinking happy sunshiney thoughts whilst wearing 4 layers of clothes so my movement is somewhat restricted 😬 These are the poppy and camomile fields at Holburn.

Well 2025 you were interesting.. THE HIGHS. Being offered Newtown. An amazing 48 hours in Pompeii, Herculaneum and Napoli with Kitty for her diss research (I went along as her assistant 😁) and she graduated with an excellent degree in Classics from Newcastle. Mum’s 90th birthday party in the Cheviot Hills. Kitty living her dream and going to work in Oz. Archie taking us completely by surprise by walking into the kitchen with a “hello mum” in October. We thought he was in Canada and hadn’t seen him for 15 months. The friends and family that rallied to help Ed pack up Manor House while I was in hospital. Special mention to Amanda S who packed, painted and grafted. Caroline T, Rosie L, Jill H and Christine L who saved the day when the clock was ticking. Welcoming our first guests to our new B&B THE LOW - My life changing accident involving a ladder and a spider which I lost rather spectacularly. Amazingly the complete and utter chaos of the move turned to calm and welcoming and comfortable and Newtown really feels like home. I’m looking forward to when the four of us are under one roof. Happy New Year to you all. May it bring sunshine, laughter and love. X Mhairi

Merry Christmas! Peace, love and happiness to all of you fabulous lot. To family and friends old and new. To those that can’t be with us. To loved ones no longer here who we are holding forever in our hearts.
Now I must get the sprouts on…. 🎄❤️

All the privacy of self catering but you don’t have to do the washing up. Breakfast is served in the conservatory at a time of your choice. Supper can be provided or you can DIY as there is a little hidden kitchenette. Leave the dishes and they will be returned clean as if by magic. A place where you can truly relax. Very quiet and off the beaten track. However, the beaten track is not far away so you can get to the coast, the national park, Holy Island and Alnwick easily. Bring your dog (if it’s socialised and particularly charming). After a day on the beach or in the hills or general mooching about come home, put your feet up by the fire and look forward to breakfast. And just as I was about to post I’ve realised I’ve done all this on the wrong account 🙄😂

Looks green… It’s blue. Definitely blue because that’s what it said on the tin.
Someone in this house who isn’t me likes to read in the smallest room so we have a loo library. Gary Larson and Calvin and Hobbes sit alongside Kobbes Opera, The Blackadder scripts, Poetry books, fishing books a plenty, Brewers phrase and Fable, A thesaurus (I do love a thesaurus 😁) Private Eye Annuals, and lots and lots of other books about lots of stuff. It’s a very good place for adding to your general knowledge - apparently. loolibrary

Back at it. Painting the “smallest room in the house”. A room so small that even I can reach and don’t need a ladder. I thought the paint was green until I started painting. Ed said it’s definitely green. The paint was leftover from the dining room. Second coat went on. I kept questioning myself. Are my specs just needing a good clean. Am I just imagining it’s not green. Is it because the room is so badly lit with its opaque glass in the window and Mr Whippy like low energy light bulb which gives a hideous yellow glow - another thing added to my to do list - Well it’s definitely not green. It’s definitely blue. Inchyra blue. The same colour as our bedroom.. 🤦🏼 To make myself feel less colour blind I was reassured by the F&B description. “Such is the magic of our colours, this moody hue can read more grey, blue or even green depending on the light. A great alternative to charcoal”. Well that makes it completely clear. Thanks for that. I feel so much better and I don’t need to go to spec savers as even the makers aren’t even 100% sure what colour it is. 🙄😂 is it

That’s the skip gone which can only mean one thing….. I’m definitely going to find loads of junk that I should have put in it. The yard looks so much better without it though 😁

Here it is! The second bedroom. N.B. As there is only one bathroom this room can only be booked as an add on when you book the larger bedroom. It is small and perfectly formed. Very comfortable bed with big padded headboards. In estate agent speak it’s “cosy”.. That said it is spacious enough for a super king size bed (can be twins) and bedside tables, a chest of drawers and upholstered bench. No cupboards but there are plenty of hooks. It’s a charming room with a view over the garden and the fields. The B&B “wing” feels like a private cottage and there is a lovely sitting room with an open fire place and a sun room. Guests have use of a huge boot room and we also have excellent drying facilities. Busy updating my website so will be live soon!
