Ayr Boswell 4-2 Auchinleck Talbot 10’s
Second league match of the season at home to Auchinleck Talbot and a great opportunity to back up a brilliant performance and result last week. The pitch at Carrick always offers the opportunity to play passing football but I actually thought the first half we didn’t do that nearly enough. We worked hard to win back possession but were then too quick get the ball forward and up the pitch, inviting pressure. When halftime came the message was to show more composure on the ball and I felt we showed that in the second half. We got our first goal from a good delivery from the right, I think from Kailin, and we had both Scott and Brooklyn in on top of it, Brooklyn getting the vital touch that saw us take the lead after 25 minutes. Talbot did have a couple of chances themselves but Riley was on hand to keep them out. Later in the first half Scott did well to create a chance for himself but it came off the crossbar and clear.
Second half we were definitely better and more in control of the ball but we did nearly gift Talbot one, a wee bit too relaxed on the ball in defence. We needed to get the second goal and it came from an absolute beauty. Kailin held up the ball at the edge of the box with his back to goal and two players at his back. That created space for Corey to unleash a great strike from the layoff into the top corner. A great strike and finish.
Talbot got back into it from the spot to make it 2-1 but not long after his introduction Dylan cut inside at the edge of the box and caressed his strike high into the net, another great goal.
But once again we let Talbot in and it was a soft goal, cross into the box and we didn’t track the run allowing a free header in our own box.
Boys then tried to see the game out and on the counter we were through on goal, Dylan taken out by their goalie resulting in a freekick and a sending off. Corey stepped up and scored from a pass finish into the bottom corner, sealing the game and a fantastic 3 points.
Two big performances from the boys so far, effort levels are top notch.
