We're happy to announce that we've been awarded a grant to further develop Volta WEC, with a specialist structural materials project examining the advanced properties and techniques of moulded polyethylene.

Wave Energy Scotland (WES) has allocated £3 million to ten projects as part of the funding call focused on structural materials and manufacturing processes for wave energy technology.

After 100 days at sea, Volta is now back on land for scheduled inspection.

We’re happy to say that the main structural polyethylene parts are in great condition, even with the +3 metre waves that we’ve recorded. The steel sections have suffered from expected corrosion so work is now underway to repair these parts as soon as possible.

Performance results so far are very promising, and we look forward to collecting more data through the turbulent winter ahead…..
