We now have the first fix electrics done!

On the one hand this is most definitely progress but on the other we've a lot more holes to sort, including a massive one in the kitchen ceiling where the electrician has needed to crawl in to access the downstairs bathroom ceiling.

On the positive side we can now start covering up those ragged walls with some nice smooth plasterboard which I'm sure will make a massive difference.

Nothing very exciting to share for this weekend's progress. We have started stripping the downstairs and intend taking the walls back to brick as there are some damp patches that need attention.

We did have a bit of help today from the youngest though who thoroughly enjoyed a bit of demolition after being lured away from the PS5 with the promise of flapjack from his favourite deli just a few streets away.

We also invested in an sds drill with a chisel attachment to help get some of the plaster off. Hopefully the next door neighbour wasn't expecting a Sunday morning lay in!

The Great Rip Out has begun! The whole of the downstairs is being taken back to brick and we are finding lots of weird things lurking behind the wallpaper.

Our first assumption was that there was a damp problem but we now think it's a condensation and lack of ventilation problem. Nearly the whole of the downstairs walls have previously been boarded in bits of chipboard and plywood and we think this has caused some issues, especially on the outside passageway wall which will be really cold. There are some salts coming through the brick in the hallway but we are going to rip everything off, leave the walls to air and breathe and then have another look.

The amount of rubbish this has created is just crazy but we have uncovered some cool original features around the bay window which we hope we can repair and reinstate.

The first real job is done!

I feel a lot better now the back of the house isn't so exposed. The new fencing is up and I think we made an excellent job except for installing one of the panels upside down 🀣 which needed a quick run to B&Q to get a piece of coping to go over the top of the panel to make sure the rain doesn't get in. Now comes the job of painting it but I think I might leave that until it's a bit warmer.

Next starts the hard work of ripping out the inside of the downstairs which will start in earnest next week.

So, the garden, this is what we're dealing with here πŸ˜… At the back there is a partially fallen down breeze block shed thing and on the right at the back there is actually a gate but it's hidden behind loads of rubbish.

The garden is going to be a dumping ground for the time being and will probably be the last thing we tackle but it is actually getting the benefit of the first job and that's really because of security.

On the left hand side of the garden there is a half height wall and then beyond that is the usual terrace house alleyway but there was a fence on top of this wall which has blown down in the recent storms, so the first job is to get some panelling back up to make it all nice and secure πŸ”

Hello and welcome to Just Add Paint, a little place for me to document our first house renovation project.

With a very small amount of skills and experience, we've taken on a monster of a project renovating a Victorian terrace by the seaside in Cleethorpes. Apart from electrics and plumbing, we aim to do most of the work ourselves with advice from friends and trusty YouTube!

This isn't going to be quick, we are weekend renovators who both run businesses through the week so progress is going to be slow but we're determined and willing, if not a little scared.
