The Lord Mayor has formally opened Elm Bank!

“I am delighted that P&K Estates have done such a wonderful job in restoring it and creating the luxury apartments and bungalows you see today.

Thank you to them for protecting the history of the building, including the Blue Plaque and some of the original features inside.

It is very fitting that the opening comes at the start of our reign as UK City of Culture. Coventry is a city that treasures its heritage and we are determined to cherish our beautiful buildings - and not just protect them for the generations to come, but to make them a living, active part of the city once more.

Our history and heritage is something that should be a part of our lives – not something tucked away for safe-keeping.”

The opening took place on Thursday 25th June 2021, and due to current government guidelines it wasn’t the celebration we had planned, however we were delighted to have representation from as well as some of the new homeowners at Elm Bank, the wonderful & a modern day Lady Godiva

Just 1 day to go until the Lord Mayor, Cllr John McNicholas will be formally opening Elm Bank. John is the ward Councillor for Lower Stoke and has been involved in the restoration of Elm Bank from the early planning stages. We look forward to welcoming him back to Elm Bank as the Lord Mayor.

We just love the quality of architectural plans produced on behalf of Siegfried Bettmann by Architects TRJ Meakin in November 1911 when they designed his beautiful Billiard Room. These beautiful drawings can be found at Coventry Archives based at the Herbert Gallery and Museum.

Today we discovered the beautiful “Pax” sculpture in the Garden of Rest in Canley Crematorium. The reclining sculpture was created by Austrian Georg Ehrlich and was commissioned and installed by the owners of Elm Bank Siegfried and Annie Bettmann in 1945.
